We sat around the coffee table that was cluttered with lemonade and a half empty plate of cookies. Griffin sat beside me on the love seat with an arm around my waist and Samantha sat in the reclining chair across from us. Griffin picked up his glass and took a sip.

"It's so great to finally meet you Kylie. And I'm really sorry about your dad. While you were away Griffin texted me asking if-" Sam's sentence was cut short by a choking cough by Griffin. He composed himself and glared at her.

"Sammy!" He whined. Sam giggled mischievously.

"Hey Kylie, can you help me with the dishes?" Sam asked collecting the glasses a grin still on her face.

"Yeah sure..." I said warily watching them. What was going on? What didn't Griffin want me to know? I grabbed the plate of cookies and the pitcher of lemonade and followed Sam into the small kitchen. She started the water and I put the half full pitcher back in her fridge.

"He really likes you, you know." She said setting a plate in the drying rack, I picked up a towel and started drying. "He's never acted this...starry eyed before." She laughs

"What do you mean." I ask

"I mean, try not to break his heart. He's not as tough as he looks." She says looking over her shoulder, I follow her gaze. Griffin is looking at a picture frame, he has a smile on his face but his eyes are wet. He turns his head toward us, Sam looks away but my eyes lock with his. A sad smile forms at my lips. It must be a picture of his parents. He stands and walks over to us. Wrapping his arms around my waist he kisses my neck.

"Eww." Sam complains and Griffin ruffles her hair causing Sammy to yelp and splash him with water. We all laughed and Sammy and I finished the dishes.

"We should be heading home." Griffin said. "Cody's not going to be happy we left him this long."

"Oh alright, but you guys have to promise to visit again!" Sam said hugging us goodbye at the door.

"We will." I promised as we left, Griffin held my hand on the walk to the car and all the way home. We got home and the front door burst open, Kasey attacked us with kisses. Laughing Griffin picked her up in a reverse lion king pose.

"It's good to see you too little lady." He set her down and she scampered back inside. We followed her to find Cody on the couch watching Grey's Anatomy. He paused it and stood up to give us hugs.

"So how's little Sammster?" He asked as Griffin plopped down on the couch. I walked into the kitchen for a snack and turned their conversation to background noise. Hunting through the shelves on the fridge I pulled out bread, mayo, and tuna.

"Do you guys want tuna fish sandwiches?" I called over my shoulder. 'Yes'es were responded back and I began making them up. I even cut them diagonally just like my dad used to for me. The memory made my throat swell up and I had to pause for a second to pull myself back together, piece by tiny piece. I was never going to get over his death but I tried my best to get around it. After setting the sandwiches on plates I walked over to the boys. I wiggled between them setting the plate on my lap. Their conversation quickly ended and was replaced by sounds of munching.

"Die Hard?" Cody asked between mouthfuls. Griffin and I nodded, Cody wiped his hands on his pants and set the movie pressing play as he sank back into the couch. We settled in for a Die Hard marathon and didn't get to bed until the sun was long since set. Griffin wrapped his arm around my waist pulling us closer.

"I really hope they catch him." I said talking about Chris.

"Same, I hate having you in any danger." He kissed my hair and soon after that we fell asleep.

For the first time in a while, I had a nightmare.

"What is this? What the fuck is this!" Chris yelled waving the pplication for Allen Uni in California around the air.

"It's an application." I said shakily, a sharp pain across my face dropped me to the floor. I rubbed the lingering pain of Chris' slap.

"I know what the fuck it is, I want to know why you have it! I thought we agreed we would only apply to local universities so we could see each other?" He asked irritated. I don't want to see you, I thought but dared not say aloud. Chris huffed and tossed the application back on the table.

"Whatever, it's not like you're smart enough to get accepted anyway. He started to walk away.

"Wait." I called. Oh shit, I was really going to do this wasn't I? Here goes..."Chris I'm breaking up with you. I don't want to date you anymore." I said using all the strength I had to steel my voice. Chris stopped midstep and slowly turned, his eyes like the pits of hell.

"Excuse me?" His voice was calm which terrified me because I knew he was furious.
