That night, Satoru could do nothing but stare up into the vine decorated ceiling as you peacefully slept on the other side of the bed, behind the barricade you had made.

Something bugged him greatly, something he couldn't quite understand. Satoru obviously wasn't heartless. He could show empathy to another's circumstances but for his view of someone's character to completely take a shift so suddenly, that wasn't like him at all.

He was starting to see why you were so tamed and polished: with a father like yours, was it ever an option but to be perfect? With his methods of discipline, who could blame you for how you are, perfect in mannerisms, appearance, and personality.

There is no room for mistakes and imperfections since you probably knew the risk if such a trait was presented.

One thing is for certain from your family's dynamic; your father would have handed you off regardless if the Tsuji clan was dying or not.

That's just the man he was.

As soon as the early morning rose, you were woken up by the tweeting of birds. Lifting yourself from the bed, you freshened up before heading for the door. Taking a small glance at Satoru, who was sprawled out on his side of the bed, mouth agape and drooling.

Leaving the room, you made a stop at the kitchen before making a straight line for Hitomi's bedroom. Arriving at said destination, you were met with a guard blocking the door.

"Forgive me, heiress, but your father has given me strict orders, restricting me from letting anyone but himself into Young Master Hitomi's bedroom." The guard hesitantly told you.

Seriously? What lengths won't your father go to. "Well, as heiress of the Tsuji family and higher up to you, I am demanding that you allow me into this room. This is not a request."

"I'm sorry, but my orders came from your father, whose authority is far superior to yours, so I'm afraid I can not."

"All I am asking for is five minutes, in and out. I don't doubt that you saw what occurred yesterday, and I just wish to check on my brother. Just five minutes." You plead, hoping the guard would show sympathy.

The man looked away. From what you could see, he was mentally weighing his options. "...Alright, you can see him, but only for five minutes just like you had said."

He quickly opened the door and ushered you inside before closing it once more. "Hito?" You called out even if you already knew where he was. Placing down the small basket you had brought with you, you slightly lifted your dress and knelt down to look under Hitomi's bed.

Just as expected, he was curled up under the dimly lit bed with a book in hand. "Y/n!" He exclaimed as he saw your face peeking at him. Scrambling out from under the bed, he proceeded to throw himself into your embrace, holding you as tightly as he could.

"Are you alright, Hitomi? Does your face still hurt?" You frantically questioned while examining him.

"Y/n, I'm scared and I want to leave, I don't want to stay here anymore." He crooked in a voice that told you he had been sobbing not too long ago.

"I know, Hitomi, I know. I am so sorry he did that to you, but do not worry, I am working on getting you out of here, so you can stay with me, okay." Hearing this, the little boy nodded his head that was resting on your shoulder. "Now, here, I stole you some food, eat up."

An unfortunate truth was that whenever Hitomi would "misbehave," your father would punish him by taking away his meals for a day or so. Something he saw as viable punishment.

Ruffling his hair, you watched as Hitomi ate and drank his fill, which was everything you had brought in the basket since the boy was practically starved.

'I will get you out of here.'

"Hm, this place was fairly easy to
Find for a clan that's trying not to go extinct. No wonder the clan's dying." Across the main estate that you and your family resided in, atop the tall roof of another section of the estate was an intruding Toji.

Crouching, he opened a briefcase he had brought along with him. He took out and assembled the separated parts of his weapon before laying on his stomach to look through it.

Maybe it was Toji's good fortune, or maybe you were just plain cruel to yourself without knowing it, but as he peered at the large windows through the sniper scope, a woman just so happened to set herself down at the nook of the window.

Through his years, Toji had seen and known many heirs and heiresss. Unlike the rest of the clan that donned casual kimonos the majority of the time, it was never so for heirs, regardless if their day consisted of important events or not, they would always be dressed exquisitely.

Knowing that much was how Toji was able to distinguish that the person sitting at the window seemingly wiping her own tears was no mere woman.

It was the Tsuji clan's heiress; Y/n.

"Heh, seems to be my lucky day." He chuckled as he continued to look through the scope and clock the sniper rifle.

His finger touched against the trigger as he prepared himself to take the shot.

"Too bad it isn't yours, Tsuji."

His finger continued to graze the trigger, and as he was to press on it, his breath hitched. Lodging in the esophagus of his throat.

You had suddenly gazed through the window, right in his direction at that. From his perspective, both your eyes met, but that wasn't the case due to the distance. He realized, since there was no sign of alarm in your features that you couldn't see him as he could see you.

Your glossy eyes appeared all too alluring through the scope, and for the first time in all his years, Toji could not bring himself to move. He was utterly frozen.

Although your face held an expression of despair, you looked like a mystical fawn. Helpless prey, pleading with its predator.

An assassin was never to negotiate with the target, and even though it was one-sided and you weren't seeing the dark-haired man at all, Toji felt like that was what was happening.

And,

He wanted to show mercy.

Oddly enough,

He wanted to spare your life.
