Emperor Seokjin stood upon the terrace, the night having fully descended upon the realm.

The cool breeze played with his long, ebony locks, which fluttered like a dark banner in the wind.

His arms were crossed, and his eyes, filled with a mix of contemplation and melancholy, were fixed upon his empire, which lay peaceful and serene under the moon's gentle glow.

Despite the tranquility that enveloped his domain, sleep eluded him.

Suddenly, he flinched as he felt two arms encircle his waist. He spun around, rage flashing in his eyes, only to find himself face-to-face with his consort, Namjoon.

The anger in Seokjin's eyes softened into surprise and then guilt as he beheld Namjoon's startled expression.

The Emperor, who had always been a source of comfort, now stood there, puzzled by Seokjin's reaction.

In all their years of togetherness, the Emeritus had never recoiled at his touch. Namjoon's touch, like that of their son Taehyung, was always a source of love and care.

Seokjin managed a smile and gently grasped Namjoon's arm, pulling him into an embrace.

"Your Majesty, I was lost in thought and did not perceive your presence," he said, his voice tender and laden with guilt.

Namjoon shook his head and wrapped his arms around him. "It is well. I was merely wondering what had you so deep in thought," he replied, his gaze shifting to the empire below.

"Ah, it is naught... merely thoughts of Taehyung and Jungkook," he replied.

Namjoon frowned, noticing the discomfort in Seokjin's demeanor. This was not the Seokjin he knew; something was amiss.

He pulled Seokjin closer, pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead.

"My love, the Almighty has already ordained their futures. They are content now, is it not so?" The Retired Emperor assured him, his voice soft and comforting.

Seokjin nodded, a small smile gracing his lips. He pulled back and wiped his forehead. "We should retire. The hour grows late," he suggested, stepping back.

Namjoon nodded, and Seokjin turned, walking back to his chamber with hurried steps. Namjoon stood there, frowning.

Seokjin's behavior was different—he never wiped his forehead after a kiss, never walked away so abruptly, never left Namjoon alone like this. What had changed? Had Namjoon done something to wound him?

He sighed and was about to head to his chamber when he heard the voice of Hoseok, the royal guard.

"Your Majesty, I have matters to discuss with you," Hoseok said, his voice serious and firm.

Namjoon nodded. "Speak, Hoseok," he replied, smiling softly.

Hoseok looked around and shook his head. "Not here, Your Majesty," he said, his voice tinged with hesitation.

Namjoon frowned, sensing something was awry. He nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation.

As Namjoon was led by Hoseok toward King Ji-woo's chamber, the dimly lit hallway, illuminated only by flickering candles, cast eerie shadows upon the palace walls.

The new curtains fluttered in the wind, adding to the unsettling atmosphere. Their footsteps were so light that it seemed as if no one was walking on the wooden floor.

Namjoon's hands were clasped behind his back as he queried.

"May I ask, Hoseok, what matter is so urgent that you must speak with me and not the present Emperor?" His puzzled voice echoed in the silence of the hallway.
