-10 years later-
‘Thea Ellis,’ the receptionist said looking down her list, ‘Ahh yes, your new form room is F9 on the second floor, your new form Tutor is Mrs Wallace,’ she said smiling benignly down at me. I thanked her as I hurried down the corridor to my new classroom.
Plan of action; arrive early and as inconspicuously as possible. I knocked quickly before walking inside; the room was in total chaos, boys in the corner were testing out paper airplanes, gangs of giggling girls.
I sat down at the back of the classroom busily looking at my timetable. After five minutes I knew I had to put it away, I mean how long does it take to find out what your next lesson is? I looked up hoping no one had noticed me, so far so good I thought scanning the room quickly.
That was when I noticed a boy glowering in the corner, staring directly at me. I stared back at him, his black hair swept across his forehead, shading his eyes ever so slightly, but they blazed an intense swimming pool blue.
He was the most beautiful guy I’d ever seen, he sat languid yet defensive in his chair as though either stance would cost him no extra effort, his lean long legs stretched out under the table. Phwwwooaarrrr. I tore my gaze away letting my unruly finge flop forward over the side of my face like a curtain of red, shielding me from his intense gaze.
The minute the bell rang I stood up quickly leaving the room, hoping the avoid the guy with the intense gaze. My first lesson was Scottish History. I decided against my earlier form-room tactic and instead tried looking for a friendly face to sit next to. Luckily, a petit blonde haired girl smiled at me as we walked in ‘Hey you’re Thea right?’ she asked in a lilting Scottish accent.
‘Yes,’ I replied shyly
‘I think you live up the road from us, my mum bumped into your mum at the bakers yesterday, she said you’d just moved up here from Ireland!’
‘Yes we did just a few days ago, how did you know it was me,’ I smiled at her.
‘Everyone knows everyone here, plus your mum said to look out for the girl with the curly red hair and bright blue eyes, there aren’t that many of those around here.’ She grinned at me as we took our seats.
‘Right class’ the teacher Mr Woodman began ‘I want you to think of this quote as we begin our lesson ‘‘fierce of heart and fierce of face will lead this world to a better place’’ what do you think this means?’ he asked writing on the board with a flourish.
‘Is it about warriors or something’ someone muttered.
