—As the night deepened, Jamie sat by the window of her dorm, the cool night air brushing against her face. The stars above seemed indifferent to the turmoil she felt inside, their distant light unable to penetrate the darkness of her thoughts. Her cigarette burned low between her fingers, the faint glow illuminating her tear-streaked face. She took a slow drag, exhaling the smoke into the chilly night, her gaze distant.

Al-baydah had gone to her own dorm after their heartfelt moment, and now Jamie felt the weight of solitude pressing down on her. She hadn't even changed into her pajamas, still wrapped in the same clothes she'd worn all day, the chaos of the hours before replaying in her mind. Her heart felt heavy, her chest tight with emotions she couldn't name.

The soft hoot of an owl in the distance drew her attention for a moment, but she quickly returned her gaze to the horizon. Across the courtyard, in the Hufflepuff tower, a faint light caught her eye. She barely registered it at first, lost in her thoughts, until she saw a figure moving near the window.

It was Cedric.

Jamie froze for a moment, her cigarette paused mid-air. His familiar frame leaned against the windowsill, his expression one of quiet concern as he looked in her direction. She wasn't sure how long he'd been there or if he'd noticed her tears, but his presence made her feel exposed. Vulnerable.

She quickly looked away, focusing on the glowing ember of her cigarette. She didn't want anyone to see her like this—not even Cedric, as close as they were.

But Cedric wasn't the type to leave things unsaid.

After a moment, he stepped back from his window and disappeared into his dorm. Jamie didn't think much of it at first, assuming he'd gone to bed, but she was wrong. Across the way, Cedric sat at his desk, pulling out a sheet of parchment and his quill. His handwriting, neat and deliberate, began to fill the page.

'Jamie,

I saw you at your window tonight, and I knew something was wrong. You don't have to say anything—I get it. Sometimes, life feels too heavy, and the weight of everything can be unbearable. But you're not alone, Jamie. I need you to remember that.

You're stronger than you think. Even when everything seems like it's falling apart, you're the one holding it together. And you don't have to do it all on your own.

If you ever need someone to talk to, or even just someone to sit with in silence, I'm here. Always. You're one of my best friends, Jamie, and I'd do anything to help you.

Please take care of yourself. And don't forget—you're never alone.

-Cedric'

Cedric folded the letter carefully and tied it to the leg of his owl, a sleek tawny bird that always seemed to know exactly where it was needed. "Take this to Jamie," he whispered, giving the bird a gentle nudge. The owl hooted softly before taking flight, its wings slicing through the night air as it glided toward the Ravenclaw tower.
