She was just a girl like any other, she was just another girl that dreamed of the day, her prince charming would come. All her life, she had been told, that one day, a man would be to her, what Philip is to Aurora, what Eugene is to Rapunzel. So, she waited, again and again, waited, again and always, until he appeared.
He approached her, a sly smile on his lips, a knowing look on his face, sweet words out of his mouth. He told her what she wanted to hear, recited all the pretty words he knew, and for a second, she thought it could be him, he could be the one.
She believed him, when he told her how much she meant to him, when he admitted how much he loved her, when he stated he wanted her, and her alone, no one else, her.
That's why when an argument happened, when that man raised his hand, when he touched the delicate skin of her cheek, she told herself it was alright. She kept on repeating that he didn't mean it, that it was a slip up, an accident, so she stayed silent. She was going to change him.
He apologised, said it would never happen again, that he didn't know how he even could have done that in the first place. He promised, he swore, she trusted him, she believed his words, she had faith in him.
Sadly, those beautiful sentences were only words put alongside each other. Sadly, his promise was broken within the same week. That women, once proud, once glad, kept her mouth shut. He would get better, right? It's not really him; its not his fault, he is going through a lot...
She made up excuses to satisfy her thoughts, she gaslit herself into thinking the man she was with, was the man she had fallen for, the man that swooned her off her feet. He wasn't though. The man she loved was only a façade, nothing more, nothing less. The moment she realised it...it was already too late.
She needed to run, to leave, to disappear, and as hard it was, she found the strength to save herself. It was a tough battle, against that man, against her own mind, but she managed, she left him.
Even far from him, the memories kept on haunting her twisted mind. Even away, his words, his hands, she couldn't stop thinking about it, she would never forget it. The scars he made, they would never fade, and part on her would keep on bleeding. The burden of his words, all her life, she will carry it. She was lucky enough to leave him, but he would never really leave her.
Many didn't have her chance, many in her situation couldn't escape their fate.
She was just a girl, but no, she wasn't like the others, she had escaped, she had won.
