Chapter 10

Grayson's pov

After Maddie called, Somer and I rushed to the hospital, along with Nicole, Dylan, and our mom and dad. When we walked in Maddie was in the waiting room with Ryan. My mom and Somer sat next to Maddie trying to comfort her, while my dad and I went to ask when we could see Ethan. "Well.. according to my last update a nurse will be out to get you guys in about 5 minutes" The lady said. We nodded and told everyone. "I feel like this is my fault" Maddie said, a tear slipping down her cheek. "No, why would it be?" Nicole asked. "I feel like he was trying harder just because I was there.. maybe it put pressure on him.." Maddie trailed off. "No, that isn't like Ethan" I reassured her. Just then, a nurse walks in. "The doctor wants to see family first, then visitors." the nurse said. I nodded to Maddie and she returned with a weak smile. 

Maddies pov

I waited impatiently. When Grayson and his parents came back up I stood up immediately to greet them. "Ethan has some memory loss.. he remembers us, but I'm not sure about some of you guys" Grayson frowned. I exchanged looks with Somer and Nicole, and then we rushed in with Ryan and Dylan. Ethan glanced over at the doorway. "Ryan! Dylan! What's up?" he said, totally ignoring Somer, Nicole.... me... I was upset, but I guess I kinda knew it wasn't his fault. Somer nudged me and I walked in. "Who are they?" Ethan asked, his head slightly tilted. I was choked, I couldn't say anything, I opened my mouth, nothing came out.  "Uhh well, I am Somer, Grayson's new girlfriend, and.. that is Nicole, Dylan's girlfriend-" and Somer was cut off by Ethan. "Ok ok, lemme guess, and you are Ryan's new girlfriend?" Ethan gestured towards me. "I uh- n- no I- I am actually- uh- just friends of Somer and Nicole" I stuttered, Ryan blushing in the background. I couldn't take seeing him like this, and I couldn't face the fact that he can't remember who I am. I don't know what to do. I went back into the waiting room with Mr. and Mrs. Dolan. 

The trip home was awkward, it was Grayson, Ethan and I in the back, and I felt the need to keep my mouth shut, while Grayson and Ethan took selfies and messed around. We got back and I walked inside with Grayson. Ethan went upstairs into his bedroom, Mr. Dolan left for work along with Mrs. Dolan, and Grayson and I sat in the living room. I groaned. "Grayson.. I don't know what to do" I sighed. He looked at me. "Well the doctor said we can't force him to remember, it will come back slowly on it's own, but.. why don't you just talk to him" Grayson said. "It won't be that easy. He doesn't love me anymore... he doesn't even know who I am... just like before..." I sighed. "Look, Ethan still loves you. Deep deep down, he knows it. It just has to come out. And it might work faster if you talk to him" Grayson said. I nodded at him. I took a deep breathe. I leaned on his doorway. "Hey, how are you feeling?" I asked, sitting next to him. "Good, just have a slight headache" he said. "I'm so tired" he yawned. "Yeah. Me too" I said quietly, resting my head on his shoulder out of habit. My eyes widened as I realized it and backed off, readjusting my glasses and tucking my hair behind my ears. "Sorry" I muttered. "It's okay, it's just that.. I have a girlfriend" Ethan said. My heart dropped. "Right..." I said quietly. I got up and left. Great. So I am gonna have to walk in to school tomorrow without Ethan, and I'd bet Ariana will take advantage of Ethan forgetting that they broke up. I plopped onto the couch, and slept. I knew I was gonna need it. 

*the next day*

I got up and got ready. I left my hair down, and slipped my grey sweater on, I put on my dark jeans, and I saw something shiny fall out of the pocket. A blade. When I picked it up, I felt my hands heat up. It tempted me, but I stuffed it back into my pocket. I applied winged eyeliner and mascara, slid on my vans and grabbed my backpack. I walked to school alone, because Somer was at Nicole's house the night before. I walked to my locker and put my backpack in it, when Ariana approached me."Where's  your boyfriend huh?" she snapped. I wasn't quite sure about how to answer that.. "ANSWER ME!" she snapped. "I uh-" I was interrupted by Ethan walking up to Ariana. "Hey babe" he said, planting a kiss on her lips. I went cold. I grew goosebumps and did my best not to shiver. Ethan walked off to his locker, winking at Ariana. "So, guess he finally dumped your sorry ass and is coming back to me. Well, don't worry, I will take good care of him" She whispered the last part into my ear. I gulped. 

The rest of the day went on. I was miserable. Ariana was back to beating me up when I was vulnerable, but now it hurts twice as much due to my bruises. At lunch, my seat was taken at our table with Somer, Nicole, Dylan, Grayson, and Ethan. Ariana was sitting there. I walked to an empty table and buried my head in my arms. I heard people sit next to me. It was Somer and Nicole. I wiped the stray tear off of my cheek. "Hey guys" I said. "We are so sorry Maddie" Nicole said. "It's okay. It's no ones fault. Ethan just... doesn't remember.. that's all... and Ariana is being a bitch and using him just to get to me." I groaned. I got up and went to the bathroom. I went into a stall. I took a deep breathe. My life is becoming upside down. I miss having Ethan by my side. It's the only thing that made me happy. I took the blade out of my pocket. 

I can't believe I am doing this again...
