Erin tried to focus on the work at hand, as she knew the papers littered across her desk with footage on the computer before her face. But yet, neither could get her sole attention.
Instead, she could not help but glance towards her phone repeatedly. She waited for a text message, a phone call - anything to update her on how things were going downtown in Chicago right now.
She knew the hearing began that morning at 8 o' clock sharp. She knew it would start off with Jay saying his side of the story, followed by the investigators saying what they had found. There would be questions asked to follow, and then hopefully a decision made. She just hoped that decision was something she wanted to hear.
It was afternoon by now, and yet she had not gotten a single thing from him. She was expecting something, anything. But why?
"Are you okay?" Adam asks as he walks by her desk, placing a cup of coffee before her. "Have you heard anything from Jay?" Erin solemnly shakes her head no, not taking her eyes off of her phone to acknowledge him in the process.
"He'll be fine," Hank comments as he leans back against the door frame, watching the scene before him. He was almost ready to let her go home, or by Internal Affairs to keep her eye out for Jay there. It was not like she was accomplishing anything right now where she was.
"Hank is right..." Adam gives her a pat on the shoulder before going to sit where he sat at his desk and return back to his own work that he was doing.
As if on cue, she heard her phone beep with a message, her eyes turning to it right away.....
Just got done sharing my side of the story and answering their questions. Awaiting their decision.
She takes a deep breath, debating what to say back in response. Part of her wanted to be the strong partner and give him reassurance. The other part had her curiosity pegged in wanting to know details as to what happened. Did he feel confident? Did it go smoothly? What was his feel from the room? The message just seemed too short that it began to increase her curiosity.
"Was that message from him?" Hank asks, having seen her look towards her message. She simply nods her head in return as he makes his way over to her desk to take a peak at it himself. The fact she left it uncovered for him to read meant the invitation was there to do so.
"I don't know whether it's a good thing or not," she comments quietly, referencing the tone of the message. Maybe Hank could give some good insight to make her feel better. "I just hope it went smoothly...."
"If he was worried, he would tell you that. He would have texted me as well and I did not get a message from him." Hank rubs her shoulders as he pulls out his own phone to double check to see if Jay sent him anything. He also spent the time checking for any other new messages, knowing the conversation he shared with Trudy Platt. "Stop worrying, it's going to work out."
"Are you sur-"
"Trust in Jay. He has been in this situation before and handled it accordingly. Everything is going to be fine..." She nods her head, trying to let the words of assurance sink in as she looks back towards her phone once again. She knew she could not leave him without a message in response as her mind continued to debate what to say.
I believe in you. They're going to be find you innocent because you are. Love you always. See you at home tonight.
Can't wait to cuddle with you on the couch tonight. Miss seeing ya pretty face.
It's not the same being at the office with you. Adam does not make coffee as good as yours.
"I am just going to walk away now...." Hank comments in seeing the flirtation back and forth as he backs away from her desk and returns to his own office. Adam could only glance over a bit concerned by the response.
"It's not as bad as Hank is making it seem," Erin says with a chuckle as she reads his next message back in response.
It felt good to be texting him. It brought a smile on her face. She was still distracted, but at least she was a happy distracted person now. That had to be a good thing, right? A deep breath, and seeing how chill he was, it gave her confidence. Maybe everybody was right. Maybe there was nothing to worry about. It was going to be fine.
