KAIA SAT IN silence, her eyes pinned on Ben as he signed everything that had happened and she felt sick to her stomach as she realized quickly just who he had been speaking to. Aiden and Taylor clung to Ashlyn, who as happy as Kaia was to see was alright, couldn't find it in her to go and touch in that moment. In fact, Kaia hadn't spoken a word to anyone since the shift, she had even shrugged Aiden's hand off her shoulder as she listened to Ben.
"So this man 'Maverick' wants to help us?" Tyler questions, sitting on the edge of the table and Kaia's teeth grit.
"I doubt that," Kaia scoffed as she turned to look at Ben, the sound of her voice catching everyone's attention considering they hadn't heard it all night. "We shouldn't trust him." She spits out, and none of them failed to miss the odd amount of emotion behind it. "You guys don't know him, at all, you know nothing about this man and here he is offering you an escape that's way too good to be true? How could you trust that?"
Tyler notices her wording, his brows furrowing, "you don't know him either, Kaia. Ben's the only one that's met this guy." His eyes narrow as Kaia goes to say something, but purses her lips and hesitates long enough for all of them to notice the fear that briefly clouds her blue eyes, "unless you aren't telling us something?"
