𝕮𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐗𝐗𝐗𝐈𝐈 Trip to the seamstress pt2 ════✧ ⍣ ✧ ⍣ ✧ ⍣ ✧ ⍣ ✧═════
You stood there, a little spacey, still half-reeling from Uraume's ambush and their words. Your fingers fiddled awkwardly with the sleeve of your robe when a cluster of finely dressed ladies swept past, their voices like a hive of buzzing bees.
One of them caught your eye.
Manami?
You both recognized each other at the same time, and the playful smile on her face immediately melted into something colder. She muttered something to her companions before excusing herself and walking over to you, arms crossed.
"What are you doing here?" you both blurted at the exact same time.
There was an awkward beat of silence before she scoffed and tossed her hair over her shoulder.
"If you must know—I'm here to get an outfit for the Bloodmoon Festival. This here, is the most magnificent place in the world. Madame Yui's pieces are quite exquisite."
You nodded slowly.
"And you?" she asked, tilting her chin up like she was daring you to flaunt. "Aren't you supposed to be off somewhere with your mates?"
You scoffed, folding your arms. "They're in the solar. And they're not my mates."
"Yet," she added dryly, her mouth twisting into a bitter little smirk. But then she sighed, as if even she couldn't hold on to the pettiness.
You looked her up and down, wary but curious. "How are you even here? I thought—you know—"
Manami shrugged, like it was the most casual thing in the world. "Ran away. I left the manor."
Your eyes nearly popped out of your head. "What?!"
She laughed, genuinely amused. "Yeah. I mean, there was no reason I had to stay. Mei Mei didn't own me...took me awhile to realize that."
Your shoulders sagged under a sudden weight of guilt. Manami caught the shift immediately, rolling her eyes.
"Don't do that."
You blinked. "Do what?"
"That whole guilty, kicked-puppy look. Ugh." She waved her hand at you like you were an annoying fly. "I didn't leave because of you, so don't flatter yourself."
You narrowed your eyes at her. "I feel like that last part was not necessary."
She smirked and leaned casually against the wall, looking far too smug. "Maybe not. But it was fun to say."
You huffed but stayed quiet, letting her continue.
"You actually did me a favor, you know," she said, her voice losing some of its sharpness. "Yeah, I liked Lord Geto a little...but not the others. And honestly? Not even him, not really. It wasn't romance—it was just survival instincts trying to trick me."
