The day of the pool party was warm, with a buzz of casual chatter and the sound of water splashing. Lilith had organized the gathering as a way to unwind, inviting a few close friends, including Bethesda von Eldritch. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, but there was an undercurrent of tension that only Lucifer could feel.
He had reluctantly taken his shirt off to join the party, his toned physique a side effect of his angelic heritage rather than any effort on his part. He noticed Bethesda, standing off to the side, her featureless glowing eyes fixed in his direction. Without pupils, it was impossible to know what exactly she was staring at, but Lucifer felt a familiar unease creep up his spine. He knew. He knew she had a crush on him.
Despite himself, he couldn’t deny that Bethesda looked amazing. She had recently given birth to two children, but her figure was still statuesque, and her dark, flowing attire somehow made her presence even more striking. He sighed, internally chastising himself for the thought as he turned his attention elsewhere.
Bethesda, however, had other plans. As the party continued, she silently crept up behind him. It was unnerving how she moved without a sound, her aura subtle yet inescapable. Before he could react, her hands were on his shoulders, kneading into his muscles with a surprising amount of skill.
Lucifer froze.
“What—what are you doing?” he stammered, his voice edged with both surprise and mild irritation.
Bethesda didn’t respond verbally—of course, she didn’t. Instead, her hands worked with practiced precision, releasing tension he hadn’t even realized was there. Despite himself, he had to admit… she was really good at this.
From across the pool, Lilith noticed the interaction but didn’t seem concerned. She waved it off with a smile, her voice light as she addressed Lucifer. “Oh, let her. She’s harmless, you know that. Such a sweetheart.”
Lucifer’s eyes flicked toward his wife, his lips pressing into a thin line. “Harmless, right,” he muttered under his breath, still unsure whether to protest or just let Bethesda finish her unsolicited massage.
Bethesda remained silent, but her glowing eyes seemed to glimmer faintly. She tilted her head slightly as if to say, See? Nothing wrong here.
Lilith wandered over after a moment, her expression amused. “Relax, darling. She’s just trying to help.”
Lucifer sighed heavily, giving in for the time being. “Fine, but if she starts trying to dislocate my shoulder, I’m blaming you,” he said, his tone dry.
Bethesda made a faint noise—a hum, perhaps?—and Lilith immediately turned to her, nodding as if they’d had a full conversation. “Oh, she says she’d never do that,” Lilith translated, her tone breezy.
Lucifer raised a brow. “And you can understand her, how exactly?”
Lilith shrugged. “I just do. It’s like… a vibe thing.”
Bethesda nodded in agreement, her hands still firmly planted on Lucifer’s shoulders, working out knots that had been there for centuries.
Lucifer, though still uncomfortable, found himself begrudgingly relaxing under Bethesda’s expert touch. He kept his gaze firmly ahead, avoiding any further acknowledgment of her lingering attention. “So, Bethesda,” he said, forcing casual conversation, “are you… enjoying the party?”
Bethesda responded with another faint hum, and Lilith immediately piped up, translating once more. “She says it’s lovely, but she prefers quieter settings. She’s here for the company.”
“Of course she is.” Lucifer muttered, side-eyeing the silent yet oddly expressive demoness behind him.
The rest of the pool party carried on without incident, though Lucifer remained hyperaware of Bethesda’s presence for the remainder of the day. As much as he appreciated her “help,” he couldn’t shake the feeling that her affection was becoming increasingly… persistent.
As the pool party continued, Lilith wandered over to where Bethesda was still massaging Lucifer’s shoulders. Meanwhile, in the background, Charlie, Octavia, and Arabelle giggled and splashed around in the shallow end of the pool, seemingly oblivious to the tension brewing among the adults.
Bethesda’s glowing green eyes glimmered faintly as she tilted her head toward Lilith, making a soft, indecipherable noise. Lilith, as always, immediately caught on, nodding and laughing lightly as if Bethesda had told her an amusing anecdote.
“She says you really need this,” Lilith translated to Lucifer, her tone cheerful. “Apparently, your shoulders are ‘catastrophic.’”
Lucifer gave an exasperated sigh. “I’m sure they are.” he muttered, trying to suppress the embarrassment of being scrutinized like this.
Bethesda hummed again, her hands still working deftly over his tense muscles. Lilith paused mid-smile, her expression flickering with something less amused. “Uh…” she started, glancing quickly at Lucifer. “Well...That’s… not appropriate, Bethy.”
Lucifer stiffened immediately, his suspicion growing. “What did she say?”
Lilith hesitated, clearly unsure how to put it delicately. “Let’s just say… she might be appreciating more than just your shoulders right now.”
Lucifer groaned, his face turning bright red. “I don’t need to know that, Lilith!” he snapped, his wings twitching in agitation.
Bethesda made another faint noise, her hands pausing for a moment before resuming their work. Lilith sighed heavily, running a hand through her flowing hair. “Bethy, darling, I know you mean well, but… I’m not translating that.”
Lucifer whipped his head around, glaring at the silent demoness behind him. “What did she say?”
“Nothing!” Lilith cut in quickly, waving a hand dismissively. “Just—just focus on relaxing, alright?” She shot a look at Bethesda, who gave an innocent shrug, though her faint hum seemed to carry a tone of mischief.
Lucifer groaned again, burying his face in his hands. “This is a nightmare,” he muttered.
Bethesda, ever unfazed, continued her silent commentary, her faint noises becoming increasingly suggestive. Lilith’s face turned an uncharacteristic shade of red as she struggled to keep up with the nonverbal conversation.
“I—I think we’re done here!” Lilith said suddenly, pulling Bethesda gently but firmly away from Lucifer. “Why don’t we go check on the kids, hmm?”
Bethesda hummed softly in protest but allowed herself to be guided away, her glowing eyes lingering on Lucifer one last time. Lucifer slumped forward, his head resting on the poolside table.
“Remind me to never let her near me again,” he grumbled, still mortified.
Lilith gave him a sympathetic smile. “Oh, come on, darling. She’s harmless.”
“Harmless,” Lucifer repeated flatly, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “Right.”
Meanwhile, across the pool, the girls were still happily playing, blissfully unaware of the chaos unfolding between the adults.
