The day of the much-anticipated singing competition arrived far too quickly for Jungkook's liking. The auditorium was packed with students and faculty, all buzzing with excitement. Contestants were lined up backstage, some nervously rehearsing their lyrics, while others chatted in hushed tones.
Jungkook stood in the corner, quietly adjusting the microphone pinned to his shirt. His friends—Hoseok, Yoongi, and Jimin—had been pestering him all week to reveal the song he’d written, but he had steadfastly refused.
“It’s a surprise, guys,” he’d said with a sly grin. “Just wait and see.”
Now, as the judges settled in their seats and the emcee called out the contestants one by one, Jungkook felt a nervous thrill coursing through his veins. Some performers sang in groups, harmonizing beautifully, while others delivered heartfelt solos that left the crowd in awe.
Finally, it was Jungkook’s turn.
The emcee announced his name, and the crowd erupted in cheers—Jungkook was well-known for his voice, after all. Taking a deep breath, he stepped onto the stage, gripping the microphone tightly. The spotlight was warm against his skin, but the auditorium was silent, waiting.
He closed his eyes for a moment, centering himself, then began to:
Are we just friends?
Nothing more?
Do you think of me the way I think of you?Do we hate each other, or is it all pretend?
Because sometimes, I wish I could be the reason for your smile.Am I hoping too much?
Dreaming too big?
But when you’re near, my heart forgets how to beat.I’m caught in a maze of everything you are,
Every word you speak feels like a shooting star.
Do you see me standing here, or am I just a blur?
Do you feel this ache inside, the way I’m sure I do?Your laughter lingers like a melody in my mind,
And every glance of yours leaves me searching for a sign.
Do you feel it too, this fire we can’t define?
Or am I just a shadow you’ll leave behind?I’m scared to ask, scared to know,
What if it ruins what we’ve built so slow?
But these feelings—they’re too loud to ignore,
And every step closer makes me want you more.I’m caught in a maze of everything you are,
Every word you speak feels like a shooting star.
Do you see me standing here, or am I just a blur?
Do you feel this ache inside, the way I’m sure I do?Are we just friends? Nothing more?
Or could you be the one my heart’s been longing for?
Dreaming too big, hoping too much—
But maybe with you, I’ve finally found love. His voice wavered slightly, but it only added to the raw emotion of the song. The audience was captivated—many sat on the edge of their seats, hanging on to every word.
When he finished, the room erupted in applause, the sound nearly deafening. Jungkook smiled shyly, bowing before quickly walking off stage.
Backstage, his friends bombarded him with compliments and questions.
“That was incredible, Kook!” Jimin said, his eyes wide. “Where did you come up with those lyrics?”
“Yeah, man,” Hoseok chimed in, clapping him on the back. “You had us all tearing up!”
Yoongi smirked. “I’ll admit, I didn’t think you had it in you to write something so deep.”
Jungkook scratched the back of his neck, trying to hide the blush creeping up his cheeks. “I just… wrote what I felt, you know? I’m glad you liked it.”
My first time writing song
You guys better give me feedback .
