Author POV.
The morning sunlight gently spilled through the curtains, falling softly on the bed where Shridha lay curled under the warm quilt. Her cheeks were flushed from fever, and the remnants of tears glistened on her eyelashes. Shivaay sat beside her, his presence a protective wall around her. Today, seeing his wife in pain made his chest tighten with a mixture of anger, worry, and love.
"Shridha... please don't cry..." he murmured, his deep voice low and filled with concern. He reached out, brushing a strand of damp hair from her forehead, letting his fingers linger to feel the warmth of her skin. His thumb traced gentle, soothing circles on her cheek, as if he could erase her hurt with touch alone.
"See... because of all this, you've got a fever... you've been crying since morning... please... stop crying..." Shivaay's voice trembled slightly, not with weakness, but with the deep ache of seeing his wife suffering. He moved closer, holding her small, delicate hands in his, gently pressing them against his chest so she could feel the steady thump of his heartbeat.
Shridha's lips quivered as she tried to speak, "Shi... Shivay... Aa... aaj... before today... my Badi Maa never shouted at me... then why today..." Her voice broke, tears spilling down again.
Shivaay's eyes darkened with protectiveness. He leaned forward, gathering her into his arms, letting her rest her head against his chest. The rise and fall of his chest, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat, and the warmth of his body slowly began to soothe her trembling. "Maybe... she was worried about something, Shridha... otherwise... you know her... she would never have shouted like that..." he whispered softly, pressing a gentle kiss to the crown of her head.
His strong hands caressed her back in slow, circular motions, the comfort of his touch making her body relax against him. He felt the soft shiver of her shoulders as her sobs continued, and he tightened his embrace, holding her closer. "I'm here... you're safe with me... nothing will ever hurt you... not while I'm around."
Shridha sniffled, her tiny hands clutching at his shirt. The warmth and strength emanating from her husband made her feel secure, a shelter from the storm of anger and misunderstanding that had exploded in the house. "I... I didn't mean to... Badi Maa... she..." Her words trailed off into quiet sobs.
Shivaay gently lifted her chin with his fingers, forcing her to look into his eyes. His intense, dark gaze softened as he took in her tear-streaked face. "Shhh... don't blame yourself, Shridha. You didn't do anything wrong. Sometimes... grown-ups get frustrated, and it has nothing to do with you. Understand?" His thumb brushed away the tears she couldn't stop, tracing down the soft curve of her cheek.
Shridha leaned into his chest, feeling the calming strength of her husband surrounding her. "I... I just... I don't want anyone to be angry with me... Shivay..." she whispered, voice muffled against his shirt.
Shivaay pressed his lips gently to her hair, holding her tight as he murmured, "Nobody will ever be angry at you, not while I'm here. I won't allow it. You are my wife... my life... and I will protect your heart and your respect, always."
He shifted slightly, sitting more upright while still holding her, allowing her to rest comfortably against him. "And remember... it's okay to cry... it's okay to feel hurt... but you are never alone. I am with you... always."
Shridha blinked slowly, feeling a soothing warmth spread through her. The hurt of the morning was beginning to fade, replaced by the comfort and safety of her husband's embrace. Her sobs softened, becoming quiet hiccups as she felt the love and protection that only Shivaay could provide.
