Lynn's dream
Lincoln and his sisters had to grab extra chairs to sit in the doctor's office. He looked over the files before looking back at all the Loud siblings.
"I understand that your sister Lynn was missing for several years. Is that correct?" Dr. Nickels asked.
"More than twenty years," Lori answered.
"And she's spent that time out on the streets homeless, right?"
Lucy nodded, "Yes, and I'm the one that found her."
"Well," Dr. Nickels said while looking at Lynn's papers, "That would explain her poor health. I'm actually surprised that she's still alive."
"It's that bad?" Luna asked.
"I'm afraid so. While she's out of danger from the leg, we need to do something about her other problems. Specifically, involving her lungs and liver," Dr Nickels said before showing some images, including MRI images, "This is Lynn's lungs. What you're seeing there is a form of bronchitis, but it's worse than that. She has COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease."
Lincoln, Lori, Luna, Luan, Lucy, and Lisa gasped and groaned in disbelief while Leni, Lola, and Lana looked confused.
"What does that mean?" Lana asked.
"It means she has lung disease, and therefore, she'll have trouble breathing," Dr. Nickels answered.
"But she'll get better, right? There are medicines and treatments for that, right?" Leni asked with a desperate look.
"There are meds that can reduce the symptoms like her coughing and help her breathe easier, but people with COPD will worsen over time. That's why she needs surgery. This looks early, as it is not in the late stage. So, surgery will do her justice. However, there's more," Dr. Nickels stated.
"What else?" Lincoln asked.
Dr. Nickels pulled out another image of Lynn's liver and compared it to a normal, healthy liver.
"This is her liver, and this is a normal liver. You can see the difference," Dr. Nickels started.
"What's wrong with it?" Lola asked.
"She has cirrhosis – liver disease."
Lincoln and most of his sisters groaned a heavy sigh while rolling their eyes.
"Jesus, what else does she have? Brain tumors? Bone cancer?" Lana asked.
"Lana!" Lola spoke.
"Calm down, honey," Leni pleaded.
"Both her lungs and liver need surgery. That's why I'm seriously recommending her to the Chaplin's Research & Medical Center Hospital in Chicago. They're the best people to operate and treat patients for these kinds of illnesses in the Midwest," Dr. Nickels explained.
"When can she go?" Lincoln asked.
"As soon as we have your approval. We just need you to sign this."
He handed them a clipboard with a few documents to sign. Lincoln took it and looked it over with Lori before signing. With that, Dr. Nickels had Lynn Jr. put on a medical helicopter and sent her to Chicago. He got on the horn so they could know what was happening, and Chaplin's hospital prepared a surgical room for her. They'll begin tomorrow morning.
