Heartbreak

Anne POV-
Anne was eating her breakfast when the butler came in with a note. "Miss Anne this just came for you" he said as he handed the note to a silver tray. Anne took the note " Thank you Quill" said Anne. Quill nodded and moved to his place against the wall. Anne looked at the note Miss Anne Stark 616 Camden Place.

I am glad to inform you that Laura is well and in for a full recovery. We are in fact headed to Bath to plan the most exciting occasion Laura has become engaged so we are making plans for the wedding. We do hope to see you while we are in town. We will be in town in two days and hope to call upon you and the family then.

As Anne read the words her heart stopped and tears flowed down her face she had lost him...forever. Anne stood up and walked briskly out the breakfast room. She walked briskly to her own bedroom shutting the door. As she walked over to her bed, Anne sat down and looked over the letter again. Tears began to fall and some hit the paper making the ink run. Anne just wast watched as as the words ran together, words that were breaking her heart. The man she loved now belong to another and she didn't know how she would survive it. Anne wiped the tears from her face and took a deep breath to calm herself. She knew that she would have to watch the love of her life be married and happy with a heart full of love. while she would live in the shadows knowing that her heart would be empty.

Clint POV-
Barton looked out the window watching the the busy street below watching the carriages passed down the street. As he watched people move about he sighed, "What troubles you brother?" asked Natasha as she looked from the novel she was reading. Clint just shook his head "Nothing Sister just was looking outside is all" he responded. Natasha smiled "I have some news that might brighten your day I have received a letter from Jane Odinson it seems if Miss Laura has gotten engaged" said Natasha happily. Clint turn from the window and gave his sister a quizzical look. "Really sister to whom has the lady engaged herself to? he asked in a enthusiastic tone. He had a heavy heart for the past few weeks he had heard the talk of him and Miss Laura and the possibility of a marriage between them.

Clint knew that he had to get away so there would be only talk and no expectations. He had made excuses that his sister had needed him than he had made his escape. It had been a a week in Bath when Natasha wanted to go into a bookshop and they ran into Anne with him. It had made his heart almost stop seeing Anne there so beautiful in a purple gown his favorite color on her. She was talking to the gentleman from Lyme who Mrs. Odinson had guessed was their cousin Mr. Laufeyson. The gentleman was far to close to Anne for his liking and from Anne's body language her as well. He just wanted to pull Anne away from that man something was off about Mr. Laufeyson, he had a mischievous grin on his face. Clint frown as Anne had made her excuses to leave and Mr. Laufeyson had forced his way to escort her home. Even Natasha had noticed the man pushy ways.

"Clint are you listening to me?" snapped Natasha in a annoyed tone. This snapped Clint from his thoughts and looked at his sister who was looking at him with a raised eyebrow. "Forgive me Nat I was lost in my own thoughts" replied Clint shaking his head. Natasha just smiled "I guess just this once, but I have to ask have you heard anything from Captain Rogers or Barnes lately?" asked Natasha. Clint looked at his sister and shook his head "No I haven't at least not in the last two weeks, why do you ask?" replied Clint. Nat just smiled "I am surprised that neither has informed you that Captain Barnes is engaged to Miss Laura Odinson, which I am surprised by I was certain you two would make a match of it. At least I know that was what her family was hoping for" said Natasha looking at her brother with a sly smile. Clint raised an eyebrow in surprise "Barnes is engaged to Miss Laura I never would have guessed at those two, I guess Barnes has gotten over Miss Sarah he seemed so devoted to her" said Clint with a frown. Natasha just smiled "Love can surprise you it can quick and fleeting and your heart moves on, but for some it takes hold of the heart and never let's go, in deep and lasting forever" said Nat soft looking at her brother carefully. Clint sighed at his sister's words which ran in his heart in knew them to be true. "Well I hope that Barnes and Miss Laura have a very happy life together" said Clint with a small smile. Natasha just nodded "Indeed it is always nice when two people find love, speaking which the talk of the town is that Mr. Laufeyson and Miss Anne Stark are going to make a match of it themselves" said Natasha.

Clint snapped his head in his sister direction and his heart dropped at the news. "What?" he asked totally lost for words. "I heard from Lady Hill herself that she was hoping for the match" replied Natasha. Clint shook his head and stood up quickly pacing the room "Anne and that man no it cannot be" said Clint with frustration. Natasha looked her brother "Clint what is wrong?" she asked with concern in her voice. Clint shook his head  "She cannot marry him....I need to go" said Clint. Natasha looked at her brother with wide eyes and she stood and was about to go to him. But Clint walked out the room. "I need some air" he said quickly and was out the door leaving his sister confused. Clint walked the streets in daze thoughts of Anne filled his mind the woman he had loved for ten years was finally lost to him and he knew that he would never love anyone but her. It was like an arrow shot him in the heart and broke in a million pieces.
