Owen's POV
"Up! Stand!" The Raptors oblige,"Hey, Max, I wanna try something new today. Release the goat," I say to Max, the gate person.
"A-Are you sure?"
"Yes," I say with a rigid determination.
The hatch door rises and out steps a goat. We weren't planning to do this until next week, but I think that we have made sufficient progress and are at a stage where we can implement this new training curve. All of a sudden, Blue leaps forward and is herding the goat into the rest of the pack and all of a sudden, they are all chasing the poor goat. I let out a whistle and shout stop. Phoenix immediately stops and I let out a little click on my clicker. When Delta sees that Phoenix has stopped, she also stops. Phoenix lets out a warning roar, which catches the others' attention. They pull up with a frustrated sigh. It's so weird. I'm pretty sure that there's something human about the way she understands me. But in a way it's helpful. I let out a contented sigh and give them a treat. That went well.
After about 2 minutes, the Raptors walk back to me. I nod to Max, and it's obvious he was more surprised than I was. He lets the parting gate open and then the Raptors run away, but Phoenix lingers behind and her amber eyes regard me, as if she's thinking about me, not unkindly, like she's trying to determine whether she should trust me or not. That's strange. I return her gaze with a look of equal intensity. Her eyes 'soften' and she gives me a little nod. And then she runs off, calling to the others.
Saffi and I walk over to my bungalow, hands in pockets.
"Where did you get your bike from?"
"It was a present," I reply," from my mother. Do you wanna have a go at driving it?"
"Is that even legal?!" she laughs.
"Well, I read somewhere that driving laws don't apply if it's on private land."
Author's note - I have no idea if this is true, this is purely for the works of fiction :)
She lets out a smile, and says, "Well, then, I'd fetch your helmet cause I ain't driving without one."
"As well you shouldn't, we wouldn't want to disappoint your father," I reply. I go and get the helmet and she puts it on. She mounts the bike, and I get on behind her. After explaining the fundamentals to her, and stressing that we should go slow, and if she crashes it, she'll have to pay, but not really, but I will be really annoyed, we go.
"Wh-Whoa!!! This is amazing!!!!"
"You're a good little rider. NO FEAR!!!!" I yell. Then, taking the steering away from her, I do a little wheelie and pull up. "There. You've just passed your first driving test," I smirk. She lets out a laugh, the first proper laugh I've heard from her in days. "Let's go inside."
We just mess around for a few hours, and before we know it, it's 7.
"Well, I should go home now," she says. So I remove the pile of books off my head and we go to Barry's apartment. "Thanks for having me, it was fun!"
"Ditto, my good friend, feel free to come over whenever you want." I give her a friendly hug and she walks back to the apartment. That was fun.
