Saffi's POV
I run to a stop. I had taken the left corridor, and my dad, the right. There ware many dinosaurs, but no Phoenix.
Now, I stood infront of an enclosure which contained a pacing baby triceratops. There were scars on his back where a saddle had rubbed him in the riding enclosure, and he was making soft but pitiful screams of despair. A plaque next to him said 'Tried to roll. Needs to be euthanised." My heart did a flip. The poor baby looked up at me with depressed eyes and a flare of anger shot through my body. It's just so barbarous. Tiny babies taken to the riding ring to be rode until they were no longer useful, and then simply exterminated. It was vile. We may have 'created' them, but that gives us no right to treat real living creatures with feelings like this. The agony coursing through him must have been terrible. He hadn't even had antibiotics or painkillers prescribed to him.
The managers of the park probably thought it would've have been 'more cost-efficient' to simply use the medicine somewhere else.
Obviously, this was just another money making machine, not an actual child with feelings.
*If any of you are confused, its just sarcasm ;)* My lip curled in disgust.
I see humans but no humanity. The thought surfaces to my mind, but I forgot who says it.
I stroke his nose, and make a promise to help him later, when I can.
But for now, I needed to find Phoenix. I take off running, to who knows where.
Barry's POV
I'm pretty sure I've checked this like 3 times, but no Phoenix. We've only got 2 more minutes till we have to be outta here. As I run around desperately, I collide with something. Ah! The figure stands up, brushing dirt off of themselves, and then I see that it's Saffi. "Did you find Phoenix?" I ask.
"No, but I did find her enclosure. And it's empty."
"What!" Disbelief courses through me. All of this, for nothing. She has already been euthanized.
I notice a glint on Saffi's face, and realize that she's been crying. I give her a questioning look, and she shakes her head, signalling now's not the time.
We need to get out of here, before the guards realize we were here. I nudge Saffi, and we both walk back the way we came.
