Owen's POV
I can't believe they let a new geneticist just create some of the most deadliest, if not THE deadliest animals in the park, and then just let her leave. It's obvious that she needed some help to actually pull off a stunt like this, so as we sit around the table that has now become our HQ, our first plan of action is to find out exactly who was helping her. Then maybe we can trace her back and fix Kylie.
That's another problem. We can't do anything to Phoenix unless we find the body, which we need to find. If we find it, Wu can transport the cells back into her brain, but it we can't, that section of Kylie is lost forever. There is also a chance that Aldridge has...disposed of the body, and if that is the case, Kylie will forever be trapped in Phoenix. That is too big a risk to even think about.
The biggest problem now is where to start looking for her accomplice. So far, we've gathered all our ideas and this is what we have so far: they must still work here so they can keep an eye on Phoenix's progress and if the experiment works; they must know the location of Kylie's body; they must be experienced in genetics; they must know a lot about velociraptors and they are a male. We got the last point from Kylie, who recalled hearing a female and a male voice before she woke up as a Raptor. The female voice was obviously Aldridge, so we just need to know who the other man is. And we've now got a plan.***
'Phoenix is in quarantine for being violent to the other Raptors, but they don't have enough handlers to look after her. She's gonna be left unattended at night!' The news has been spreading like wildfire all day. 3 guesses on who put it out there- that's right, me. Gossip in Jurassic World travels faster than Blue chasing pigs. Which is scarily fast. Which spy would ignore the allure of such intel?! Now we just need to wait and see what happens next.
We crawl simultaneously into our hiding positions situated around the quarantine pen. Kylie sits awkwardly in the middle, her intelligent eyes regarding me with hope and a wave of sadness and anger overtakes me. No one has the right to experiment on human lives this way, at least without their permission. As soon as we find out who the vile creature is, I am going to kick him to the moon and back. Then send him hurtling towards Blue, dressed as a pig.
Suddenly, we heard the sound of wooden heels clicking against the hard flooring. The sound was fairly quite, accompanied by a pause after every step, as if the person making the sound was scared of making a racket - quite rightly I may add. We waited for him to come into the light, but we couldn't do anything tonight, we just needed to see who it was tonight.
The man was quite short, and his pale washed out blue eyes were surrounded by white wrinkles. The lines on his forehead were deeply embedded, it was obvious he spent a lot of time frowning. His spare lips were open in apprehension and awe of Kylie, but it was evident he wasn't going to do anything. His hands hung limply at his side, emerging from a clean yet slightly tattered lab coat which had obviously been through a lot. His mean eyes had a malicious glint, yet they looked slightly.... jealous?
Before I had time to register any more thoughts, he spun on his heel and shuffled discreetly away. I glance at Maisie and Barry and they nod back, signaling for me to wait a few minutes just so he knows we've gone.
However just as we're about to come out from our hiding places, we hear a sound, quickly glancing at each other with confused looks, we were as still as a a chameleon before it catches its prey. The soft tread of boots like the ones that the handlers are fond of wearing greets our ears steadily and the faint scent of.... poo? Who was this person?
A man rounds the corner but as his face hits the light, I let out a sigh of relief. It's only Hardwick, the Triceratops handler. We used to be quite good friends as we were training together at first, but then he wanted to see the triceratops, but me, I'm more of a risk taker. I nod to Barry and Maisie and jump out of my concealed location.
"Jesus Owen! You almost gave me a heart attack!" Something flashes on his face then, like fear and anger but I must have imagined it because a split second later it's replaced by surprise and laughter. I did just sneak up on the guy, I'd be angry too.
"And you! What are you doing snooping around here so late?"
"Ahh you know how it is, don't get much time to look at other dinos, and I heard this ones a real specimen.... she's quite pretty isn't she? Sorry about that, I just wanted a look at her,' he says guiltily.
"Oh no, it's fine," I reply.
"By the way, I thought no one was guarding her tonight, what's going on- if you don't mind me asking, I know you Raptor trainors can be quite secretive," he says teasingly, but stops at the worried frown on my face.
"You see, stuffs been happening with Phoenix..." and the I fill him in on the whole story, leaving out the part where I feel like it's my duty.
After I'd recited all the events up until now, I searched his face for his feelings, and I was not disappointed. He was awestruck.
"Well, that was one heck of a story. It's unbelievable...." he said staring at Phoenix with a renewed wonder,"What are you gonna do now?"
"Well..."
