I had always thought about what I would do if something like this took place. But now, when it was actually happening, I couldn't remember anything at all. I just kept driving, disgusted by the sights of zombies eating...parts of the body. I had no idea of as to where I was headed to. I thought of going to some army place or someplace that would be safe.
I remembered that sometime or the other I would have to fight a zombie. So I must have a proper weapon. But I was a common man- I had no idea where I could find a gun or some other weapon. I stopped the car in an area where there seemed to be no zombies. I searched for "Arms shop" on my phone. It showed several places around New Jersey. I started driving towards the nearest one. As I reached the place, I noticed that there were no zombies here. But anyways, I just hoped the guns won't cost more than I currently had. I went into the store. A person in a green vest and white shorts asked almost immediately, 'What do you want?' I had a little knowledge about guns. So I said, 'What's the cost of an AK-47?' 'Whoa. Thinking of joining a terrorist group, are you?' 'No. Just want to fight some zombies.' Though I said it in a sarcastic tone, I obviously meant it.
'An AK-47 won't be suitable for that. Anyhow, we can't give a weapon to you just like that. You got any proof that you can handle an AK-47?' 'What if I say that in the next ten minutes, there would be zombies crowding this place, and I just want to fight them?' 'Then I'd call a mental hospital to take you away.'
I don't think this was leading anywhere. I decided that money was the only option left. 'How about you take some extra bucks and give me an AK-47 without a license?' 'Now that's exactly what I'd love to do.' He went over and brought an AK-47 from somewhere. 'How much?' '15 thousand dollars, all inclusive.' 'Can I pay through card?' 'Sure you can.'
I gave him my card. Once all was done, I took the heavy gun and left. As I entered the car, my phone beeped. I guessed it was the confirm transaction type of message. I checked the phone. It was exactly what I had guessed. I had no idea what to do now. I decided that if I needed to go to a military base, I would need some supplies because it would take time. Now that the apocalypse was here, I don't think there would be anybody making bills for you. I drove back into the familiar streets of the city, headed towards the supermarket.
When I reached the supermarket, I realized that a lot of citizens had died at the hands of the zombies. There was destruction everywhere. People were dying- people had died but were walking around like living things. People were eating people. Everything had changed in a matter of hours. I tried to avoid contact with the zombies. I took my gun and ran towards the supermarket.
The supermarket was quiet. But it didn't mean there won't be zombies there. I told myself to be alert. I took a cart and took supplies that would be absolutely necessary- water, food, even a charger for my phone (though I didn't know where I would have found a socket). Just as I looked around for anything else important, a zombie came out of nowhere and looked at me with scary eyes. I aimed my gun at the zombie. I had never held a gun before, forget firing one. But I knew that I had to keep myself steady and keep it touching with my shoulder. Following these basics, I fired at the zombie a few times in the head. The zombie fell, and most probably, died a final death. I quickly took my cart and left the supermarket.
I unloaded the components of the cart into my car. I immediately drank some water. Then I drove off again. I crashed into a few zombies deliberately. Then I searched my phone for a military base nearby. I found one as near as possible. The nearest one was probably going to take about 12 hours. I remembered that there won't be anything wrong in breaking the speed limit anymore.
I drove through the city as fast as I dared, towards the military base. As I drove, I ate a few biscuits and other food items to keep myself going. I drove through the city, looking at people being eaten, people fighting, people dying. It was so terrifying.
I drove for about 5 hours, after which I was out of New Jersey. The military base was still quite far away. I was quite tired already. It was 7:30 now. I had to find a safe place to stay. And, I also must find another person ready to fight these zombies. I must find a friend.
