The next morning, I found a worker in the shelter and asked him, 'Are we the only survivors here? Aren't they searching for any more survivors in the city?'

'I have heard that they do send teams to search the city and rescue living people. But no one knows what the military is doing about it. Some even say they're going to take us somewhere outside the city and bomb the whole city to stop the virus from spreading.'

A military officer saw us talking. The worker left me and returned to his work. Bomb the city? Are they really going to blow up the whole city? I went back to my room. James had just got up.

'Hey.' He said, still looking sleepy.

I told him about what I had just discovered. He said there was nothing to worry about if we would be safe. That was all we should care about. Our own safety. Maybe he was right. There were deadly things roaming in the city freely. Even if they do bomb the city, it would at least finish the zombies. I remembered the loud noise I had heard the previous morning. Maybe they had already started bombing parts of the city.

At breakfast, not many people talked. Most of the talkative people were still asleep. Only families had gotten up so early and come for breakfast. Me, James and Caesar tried to think of a way to pass time in the building. We had discovered most of the building, and there was nothing interesting about it. So, just like yesterday, we heard the scary tales of people all morning. By the time lunch was served, we were not interested in any more stories at all. Plus, we had heard most people's stories. They were quite similar, which meant they got more and more boring as more people told us their stories.

In the evening, as everyone rested in their rooms, we heard gunshots. I was half-asleep, and my eyes became as large as saucers when I heard the gunshots. Suddenly, an alarm went off in the building, and the speaker in the room, which I noticed for the first time, announced, 'Danger! Danger! Zombies in the building. Occupants to immediately follow the officers!'

Without giving it a second thought, all of us got up, picked up our bag of ammunition, and left the room. The officers outside directed all the people into the basement, which I had never seen before. The basement was secured by armed men already, who were shouting orders to the people.

People seemed to be trusting the soldiers and very few seemed in a state of panic. I felt quite panic-struck myself. My feet almost gave way, and my knees wobbled with each step I took. When the army had secured each floor of the building, they locked the basement. We could hear gunshots and shouts and weird noises from outside. Though the basement was locked, somehow there was still air coming in from somewhere, which prevented us from suffocating.

We were in the basement for about 20 minutes, with continuous firing going on outside. The door was unlocked after that, and the speaker announced that the building was safe now. People went back to their rooms, and soon after dinner, as night settled in, the residents went to sleep. I looked outside at the city from the window. The city was far away now, but it had the same hypnotizing effect as it had on me when I used to look out of my apartment's window.

Life was so different all of a sudden. I couldn't believe so much had happened in four days. I wondered if my life would ever be the same again. The apocalypse had brought a sudden change in my life. What we have to live in this shelter for the rest of our life? But can the military protect us for so long?

My thoughts were shattered by screams from the gate. Our room faced the gate. My eyes came down to look where the scream came from. I saw zombies. Lots of zombies. The sleeping guards hadn't seen them coming, and now they were all attacking – and feeding – on the off-guard guards.

'Guys! Wake up! The zombies have gotten inside the building!' I shouted. James and Caesar were suddenly awake.

'What?' James asked.

'Take your weapons and get the hell out!' I screamed.

They suddenly jumped from sleeping gear to rushing gear. They flew out of their beds, grabbed the bag, and the three of us left the room. We found the Alarm button and pressed it. The alarm activated immediately, and we could hear officers commanding the sleeping soldiers to get up and grab a weapon.

It seemed like they were too late. They didn't have time to round up all the people in the basement. My doubt had been cleared after all – we won't stay here for long, and the military won't be protecting us forever.

'Where should we go?' I asked.

'Let's try to find our car. They must have kept it somewhere.' Caesar said

We went around trying to find our car. The only place left was the back area. The occupants often used to refer it as 'The Black Area', as no one had seen what lay there. If we won't find our car there, we'd be facing the zombies. We ran as fast as we could to black area. We did find the car there, but there was no exit around the back. Like they had said – only one entrance, only one exit.

To reach the front gate, we'd have to go right through the zombie area. Which meant it was time.

Time to fight the zombies.
