LAURIE STAYED GLUED to Alec's bedside for two days. As gifted as the children of Apollo were, they were still just that— children— and there was only so much they could do. All that was left now was to wait it out.
And wait she did.
Her back ached from sitting hunched over in the same spot on the floor for so long, her legs practically numb due to lack of use. Her throat felt dry and her face was probably pale because she had eaten close to nothing since the battle.
Nico had left her side when night fell and she managed to convince him to tough it out in Cabin 11 in order to try and get some decent sleep, advice that she couldn't even take herself.
Throughout the day, people came and people went, whether it be Silena and Beckendorf checking in on Alec's status or Annabeth and Percy checking on Laurie's and trying to get her to leave for a bit.
The only presence that remained stagnant with Laurie's was that of Mars. After Annabeth pried her away from his side the first time, she'd had no such luck since.
Mars was glued to a chair beside his dingy little cot, staring at him as if willing her stormy gaze to wake him up all on its own.
The second morning that Alec still remained unconscious, Laurie had spent half the afternoon as a ghost, hoping that somehow it might make her hurt less if she wasn't technically a person. It didn't.
Percy was fed up.
He had been in the corner of the stuffy infirmary for the past ten minutes now, arguing with Laurie and trying to get her to leave the vicinity, against his better judgement.
He knew that she hadn't listened to anyone else and that he was no exception, but he was this close to dragging her out of there kicking and screaming.
When he opened his mouth to fight against her foolproof argument of "You're not my mom, Jackson. She's probably entertained by this, actually," Percy felt Laurie's palm smack against his face.
The room went quieter as Alec's eyelids twitched, followed by his fingertips that were held in Marjorie's.
Laurie held her breath and prayed that this wasn't just a reflex. C'mon c'mon c'mon...
His eyes opened and Laurie probably gave him a heart attack when she screamed, "Alec!"
She was hovering at his side before he could even fully process what was going on, quickly eliminating the very minimal gap Percy had managed to strenuously create between her and the bedside.
