An almost uncomfortable silence filled the air on the way back home. Kai hasn't said a single word since we left the convenience store, which is unusual and most definitely not helping my brewing anxiety about the situation at all. The uncertainty that plagues my mind on how to start the conversation or even how to discuss something like this with anyone is what is slowly making my head spin. How is one supposed to be like 'hey I found one of my soulmates and it happens to be the most popular soulmate group in school', it's crazy. Not to mention, Kai still only has found one of his soulmates yet I managed to find one of mine in less than 24 hours.

What is he going to think? What if he resents me for it, I couldn't live with myself if he does.

"I know you're overthinking," he states bluntly, poking me in the side waking me up from my slight daze and I scoff in disbelief as a reflex but he can see right through me. How did he read me so easily?

"Me? Overthink? Never," I reply, trying to play off how he kept me from spiraling as I often do when things like this happen. He knows me too well.

"Really? Then why are you so silent?" Kai teases a bit to try and lighten the atmosphere. It seems to work when I feel a bit of the tension I was holding in my shoulders to relax. He always knew how to calm my nerves.

I rolled my eyes at his tactics, almost irritated that it actually worked and joked in return, "maybe I was trying to play the silent game."

"Y/n, come on, you and I both know we've never played that game for years," Kai whines now getting frustrated with my defensive attitude sending him the clear warning bells that I was hiding something from him, "I'm one of your best friends, so what happened back there? And why was Lee Heeseung of all people staring so intently at you?"

"Fine, fine," I finally gave in to his pleading, attempting to collect my jumbled thoughts and take a deep breath before spewing out the words, "maybeImetoneofmysoulmates."

"I'm sorry, what?" He asks, not understanding what I said, his eyes gazing at me in pure curiosity. Just say it. It's not that hard, it's just a statement, nothing more.

I sigh before trying one more time slower, mustering up the strength to say the words, yet shutting my eyes to avoid seeing Kai's expression when saying it, "maybe I met one of my soulmates!"

"Oh my god?!? OH MY GOD!" Kai shouts and then realizes what time of night and that we were in a public area. He shakes me violently causing my eyes to fly open only for me to see a giant grin on his face. He starts jumping up and down excitedly, grabbing my hands in his while swinging my arms around, "this is huge! Do you realize what a big deal this is? Why are you not celebrating with me?"

I watch as Kai looks like he becomes a dejected puppy from my lack of enthusiasm. I give Kai an awkwardly nervous grin that most definitely doesn't believe, "I am excited?"

"Doesn't seem like it to me," Kai retorts with a confused expression at my obvious hesitation to enjoy this moment. I sigh out loud as I try to find the right words to explain the swirl of conflicting emotions inside me. The main issue at the forefront of my mind right now is my parents.

"Well it's kind of hard when I already know how my parents reacted to just the soulmark, Kai. I don't know how I'm going to face that again when they've found out that I've met one of my soulmates after the fiasco this morning," I explain and the realization only seems to just dawn upon Kai.

I watch the conflict of expressions run across his face before he looks into my eyes determined, "let's not think about it right now, but we will figure this out."

He pauses for another moment collecting his thoughts, "I mean- it's stupid but you're already hiding your soulmark at school. Do you think you could hide it from your parents...just for now? It sounds like the only option we have currently without conflict."
