10 Years Later
The basement was dimly lit, with dust motes swirling lazily in the shafts of light filtering through the small windows. My daughter and I were knee-deep in clutter, sorting through old boxes and forgotten relics.
"Dad! I found one of your photo albums on the shelf over here!" she called out, her voice tinged with excitement.
"Hm? What is it?" I asked, brushing off an old box.
She flipped open the album, her eyes sparkling with discovery. "Oh?! It's you and Mom!"
"Huh?!" I leaned over to take a closer look. The photo showed me and ******-san in a candid moment, my arm draped around her shoulder as we both smiled, carefree and happy. "I don't remember this photo!"
"Hehe! Look at you, Dad! You're so clingy!" she teased, pointing at my younger self in the picture.
"Well... your mom is cute after all..." I muttered, feeling my face heat up as I turned away with an exaggerated pout.
My daughter burst out laughing, her giggles echoing through the basement.
She closed the photo album with a fond smile before her eyes landed on something leaning against the shelf.
"Dad, is this yours?" she asked, pointing at my old guitar.
I followed her gaze. "Hm? Yeah, that's mine."
She stared at it for a moment, then looked up at me with a grin. "...Can you play for me?"
I hesitated, running a hand through my hair. "I mean... I'm rusty. But if only your mom played with me—"
Her face lit up as she interrupted. "You mean Mom?! Alright! I'll go get her!"
"Ah, wait! You—!" I started, but she was already dashing up the stairs, her laughter trailing behind her.
I sighed, shaking my head with a small smile as I reached for the guitar. Running my fingers over the strings, I felt a rush of nostalgia. Maybe it was time to dust off more than just the shelves.
