Jisung carefully poured out the two glasses of wine, his hands slightly shaking from nerves.

Without a doubt spilling the beverage or knocking over a glass would be far more embarrassing than anything he could possibly say during their conversation.

He could feel the girl's fierce eyes follow his every move. They traced over his anxious facial features, unsettling him greatly, but he knew he had to remain calm in order to successfully make it through this interaction.

This had to go well.

His heart was depending on it.

Once he was finished with pouring, Jisung went to pass her the glass. When she didn't take it — not even giving it a glance — he set it down on the table in front of her dejectedly.

It was a mystery how such a small girl could be so intimidating when she wanted to be.

Her stone cold demeanor only made him want to win her over more. Thaw her out to reveal that free and open version of herself that had captured his soul that fateful night.

The version that had accepted him for all that he was.

The man took a prolonged sip from his own glass for encouragement before starting the conversation.

"Xia," he began, trying to remember the words he had prepared beforehand but they all seemed to slip his mind.

The woman saw the way he was struggling and gave him a sympathetic look. The second his eyes met hers everything fell into place.

He turned his body to face her directly.

"Xia, I'm so sorry for what happened last time. I misinterpreted the situation, and said and implied things that were unfair and cruel to you. You didn't deserve any of that and I want to apologize to you because you're..." Jisung paused to search for the right phrasing. "I don't ever want to hurt you. And I won't. Never again. I promise. I just want you to be happy."

Xia couldn't stop the small smile that came across her lips.

Sure his apology was wordy and more of a ramble, but he had taken accountability nonetheless. Plus watching him physically relax afterwards in relief, as if he was finally able to talk about a big secret that he'd been holding onto, was kind of cute.

It was an indicator that he was being sincere, if she couldn't tell already.

"It's okay," she replied lightly. "I think we both didn't act our best in that moment. Maybe said some things we didn't mean."

Jisung was more than intrigued by her last statement. What things did she say that she didn't mean? He asked himself, heart beating a little faster.
