My eyes open as i see darkness around me.
I move to rub my eyes before i feel something restricting me.
Slowly, i groggily sit up as i move the fabric off myself.
The whole world looks a blur as i feel my heart pounding in my head.
I take a moment to open and close my eyes before i glance around myself. I see the fabric I had just pushed off me billowing around my bended knees- being pushed up and down like my beating heart by the wind.
I push myself to stand.
I examine my arms and legs before I determine that i am in fact still in one piece.
I realise that, remarkably even my wound hadn't reopened on my arm.
So falling from a plane didn't open my wound but running across a desert did... who would have thought?
I see something red sitting a few feet away from me and I walk over to it. Getting closer I realise it's my hat and I quickly scoop the object up.
I look around as i fit it onto my banging head.
Then i see someone who is closest to me.
My heart quickens as i rush over to them.
The blood which pools around their body tells me that they would have not survived the jump.
To my relief i roll them over just to see it's the pilot.
I sit back on the floor as i place my head in my hands, thankful it isn't one of my family, but also sorry that it had to be him.
I shake my head as i stand. I have to find the others.
I go to turn when i feel myself enveloped into someone's arms. I squeeze my eyes shut, not wanting to see who it is.
Could it be Sucre?
Could it be Ink?
Could it be Lincoln?
Either way it still leaves two of my family members unanswered for.
Slowly i lift my head before i see the persons head blocking out the moon.
"You're alive?" I say with a smile as i hug them closer.
As i pull away i check over there face.
One nose, two eyes, one mouth- all is accounted for bar a thin cut over their forhead.
"Do you have any idea where the others are?" I ask
"They landed a few feet away from me" He says
I nod quickly as i spin around. I glance over the landscape and determine that we are defiantly in Mexico. The few trees in the area and the sand under our feet tell me we are in the desert.
As i glance around i see one of the parachutes moving. I glance at Lincoln before we both rush over to it.
Time slows as i kneel and help to move the fabric away. I wait in anticipation to see who is under the veil.
"Mami?" Sucre says as he sees me.
I nod as i pull him closer. We sit together for a minute before i help him stand.
"Where are the others?" He asks
I look up and see Lincoln rushing over.
"Lincoln's the only other person i found" I say "The pilots dead, i saw him lying in a pool of his own blood. I assume he snapped his neck on impact" I say
"And Micheal?" Sucre asks
I shake my head
"Do you have any idea where he landed?" I ask
Sucre nods at Lincoln as the three of us reunite. We walk around the empty parachutes.
"I don't see a fourth" Sucre says
I wipe a hand over my face as i realise i don't see one either.
"He will be around here somewhere" Lincoln reassures as he places a hand on my shoulder
"Yes, but will he be alive when we find him?" I ask as my voice cracks.
______________________
Lincoln, Sucre and I spend the rest of the night searching for Micheal.
By the time morning comes around we were still only the three musketeers.
I had to walk away from them at one point, the tears clouding my vision as the minutes ticked by without him.
I walked over to where the pilot had died and i sit on the ground a few meters away from his body.
I look at his face, imagining seeing Ink like that somewhere.
I take in a shallow breath at the thought and I turn my head away from the body, but as i do so i realise something.
I take a minute before i stand up and shout the others over.
"Guys, i think i might know where he is!" I say
I stand, staring at the dead body before the other two reach me.
"There is only one parachute we haven't checked under" I say as i glance at the body
"Do you really think so?" Sucre asks in hope
I shake my head as i look away.
"You guys do it, i can't bring myself to look under it and find his body unmoving" I say
Sucre nods in sympathy as Lincoln and himself take a breath before walking up to the dead pilots body. Next to it is a parachute that looks tangled and twisted.
I listen to the sound of fabric being pulled through the sand before Lincs hand touches my shoulder.
"It's him" He breathes
"Is he.. is he dead?" I ask
Then the silence after my question lingers until Sucre's relieved laugh slices through it.
"He's alive!" He shouts
I quickly turn around. I see Ink lying on the floor. He looks dead, everything about the man looks unalive.
I rush up to him as Sucre takes his hand off his neck to allow me to.
Even as his appearance looks so still- too still, his beating heart tells me that he is still with us.
I let out a sob as i fall onto his chest.
"He's alive" I laugh in relief "He's alive!"
