I wasn't really used to waking up in the morning so doing so has put me slightly in a mood. I went slowly to the cupboard and searched for something to eat but came up with the conclusion I wasn't hungry.

No I sit under the old oak tree, next to where we buried Kenny. Cameron and I plan to meet the boys later today for the event at six but for now I wait for him to wake up so I can take him around our land. Around my town. Around everything that I revolved around as a child. I want him to know where I began. I know where he did. Now it's his turn to learn.

I look up as the screen door opens and closes with a horrific nails-on-a-chalkboard type of sound.  Of course it is Cameron who didn't even bother to fix his hair. It lays flat on his head. He wears a sleeveless gray shirt and some jeans. I notice the boots he has on. My father's. They seem to fit him nicely. I rise to greet him, still not ready for the day to start.

"Hey." He smiles.

"You look like a hick." I giggle and lean my head up to peck his lips.

"Do you like it? Your mom lent me your dad's boots. They're pretty comfy." He says looking down at them and swinging his feet around. I look down at them and feel the nostalgia come over me.

"I love it. I gotta get ready." I rush and quickly go inside. I run up to my old room and find an old sleepless shirt I used to wear around the farm and my stained Jean shorts I made from old pants. I then rummage around the closet before I find my boots. I quickly throw my hair into a braid which looks horrible but always is the best for working.

Cameron walks in as I make it into the kitchen. "It's really hot today." He pants.

I grab an old hat off the counter and toss it to him, putting on the other one. Mine is camouflage. His is John Deere. We stroll outside together. I suddenly feel closer to home than ever.

"Here we are." I almost whisper as we reach the destination I've been dreading from our tour of the town.

"Let's go find him." Cameron takes my hand and leads me to start searching. It takes less than a minute when i start to drag him to if at the very back where I remember it to be under a willow tree. I stop right in front of the grey stone.

Cameron doesn't say a thing as I read the stone out loud. He just wraps an arm around me and pulls me closer to him. I rest my head on his shoulder. I close my eyes.

"Father in Heaven, please let this man know that his daughter misses him a lot. I wish I could have met him. He seemed like a brave man. A strong one too. A great father. He raised his daughter as much as he could and she turned out amazing. What a great man to serve for his country." Cameron starts a prayer and I just listen quietly to his voice until the end. "He certainly has given more than he could. After all he gave me my everything. May he rest in peace,"

"Amen." We say together.

"Do you mind if I talk to your dad alone?" Cameron whispers kissing the top of my head. I shake my head no and walk away to a bench where I can't hear him.

I kneel down and place a hand on the stone, warm from the hot sun.

"So I know you can't really answer me but I wanted to do this because it feels right. I've waited all my life to find the right girl, and become close to her and her family. I've always wanted to ask the father of the girl for his blessing. So that's what I'm doing. Alia means the world to me and I don't know how I would ever be able to live without her now that I know she's there. I want to wake up and make breakfast with her. I want to have a family with her. I want my life to have her in it until the day I die. So I really hope I can have your blessing. Please find a way to show me your answer. And don't you worry. I'll take good care of her." I spill. This is happening. Today I am picking out the ring.

As if by some miracle a cloud that had covered the sun, moved and the light shines brightly down on me. I look up and smile. Im going to ask her to marry me. And he's okay with it.

"Thank you." I whisper. I pat the stone and stand up, walking back to Alia.
