13 years later
I sat in the blue decorated room, soft little tunes spilling from my lips like honey. The small child, now curled up silently in the crib, seemed so peaceful in his rest. I pressed play on the recording we had set up of calming music because for some odd reason - cameron says it's obvious why - he can't stay asleep without sound. I snuck out of the room to go wait for Cameron to return from work. He was busy trying to make a movie and currently he was writing the script.
Quietly, I waited in the living room. I stared up at the tall ceilings. My mind wandered back to old memories. I was halfway to la-la land when the phone rang. I picked it up quickly as to not wake the baby boy. He remained silent.
"hello?" I spoke in almost a whisper.
"Hey, Alia, is Cameron home?" The familiar sound of Nash's hectic household played in the background. Children running about, the tv playing some Disney movie.
"Which one?" I giggled although I knew which.
"The one who wasn't born two months ago." I could nearly hear him roll his eyes.
"He's on his way. He had to pick Sara up from school." I explained.
"Alright, well why don't we talk until he gets there?" He suggested. I nodded into the phone.
"Of course."
And for the next thirty minutes we talked about the children and his wife and how the movie he was starring in was coming along.
Nash and Cameron were so successful. Yet, Cameron gave up acting and became the person to come up with the scripts for movies. Nash had chosen, even with his family of three -nearly four- to stay an actor. He balanced it so well.
The sound of the door opening halted our conversation. In walked Cameron, looking just as good as ever, and our beautiful Cameron lookalike daughter, Sara. She had his eyes and his nose and his personality. Cameron Jr. on the other hand looked a whole ton like me and slowly was gaining my characteristics.
"Opera? Again?" Cameron joked at the music I was playing for CJ. I blushed as he kissed my cheek. "Who's on the phone?"
"Nash." I answered. Cameron nodded. He walked over to me and grabbed the phone.
"Hey man! Look I gotta talk to Alia for a minute. Why don't you chat with Sara?" He pulled his mouth away from the phone. "Wanna talk to uncle Nash?"
Sara grabbed the phone and started a conversation immediately.
"You will not believe what your daughter did today." Cameron turns to me with a face that looks too entirely amused.
"My daughter? She was created with both of our efforts mister." I joke. "What did she do?"
"She got detention." He laughs. My jaw drops.
"How?! She's ten!" I ask, in shock.
"She got a 'boyfriend' then shouted out 'this is my man so you bitches back off'" He breaks into laughter. I stand in shock.
"Sara!" I call.
"Yeah?"
"Come here."
"Yes ma'am."
"Now I wonder who taught her that word Cameron?" I scold him. He just laughs.
"Yes mother?" Sara innocently smiles.
"Put Nash on speaker and tell him what you said at school today." I cross my arms.
She shakily does so. "Go ahead" I edge her on.
"This is my man so you bitches back off." She mumbles.
Suddenly both Nash and Cameron are laughing loudly.
"Go to your room, Sara." I punish her.
"Fine, I'll text my boyfriend." She pouts.
"What boyfriend? We settled this already! Under my watch you don't get to date until you're 38." Cameron brings out the fatherly instincts in him. She groans and slams her door. Lucky for us, CJ is a heavy sleeper.
I leave Cameron so he has time to talk to Nash.

I stare quietly down at CJ. He kicks his feet in the air. "Oh, sweetie. This world may break your bones but I'll never let it break your spirit." I kiss his forehead.
"What's wrong?" An entirely half asleep Cameron walks into the baby room with me.
"He woke up and was fussing. So I came to calm him." I explain.
Cameron walks over and wraps his arms around my waist from behind. He rest his head on my shoulder and places a kiss there. "What was that lullaby you sang to Sara when she was just a baby? It went like 'Hushabye, Don't you cry. Go to sleep my little baby'"
"And when you wake you shall have all the pretty little ponies." I continue. "you mean that one?" I smile at the memory.
"Yeah," He hums the tune. "You know, you sang him to sleep so often he can't go to sleep without music now. Maybe it's not such a bad thing. Maybe you should sing again. I enjoyed it as well."
And so, smiling, I begin to sing the tune of the lullaby. Cameron joins in and suddenly CJ is asleep. I turn to Cameron with a tired smile.
I can't help but kiss those beautiful lips. "Look what we did."
"Isn't it amazing?" He smiles.
"It sure is." I agree.
"I love you, Alia."
"And I love you." I speak my words with a kiss that means no less to me than the kisses did when we first met nearly 16 years ago. Because no matter how long I'm with him, nothing changes. I will forever be entitled to the man who shattered me, fixed me, then helped me. He is my one true love.
And I could never ask for more.
