OMNISCIENT
His majestic swagger was more than enough for people to make way for him. The male is outfitted in a coffee-brown double-breasted vintage suit, and on the left lapel was a golden enamel pin with a chain.
Coupled with his insanely handsome looks, the man's trendy look had the police officers wondering if he was a model sent to mock their fashion sense.
"This way, Mr Aarif," Michael led them into the dark interrogation room, in which there were only two chairs on opposite sides, a table, silver handcuffs, and a transparent glass of water.
"Where is my sister?" He pulled out the metal chair and sat, instantly regretting his decision due to the layer of frost that stiffened his butt.
"Until your name has been cleared, she won't see you. Her words, not mine," Michael rolled his eyes for the umpteenth time that day.
The detective urged him to stay behind and start with the interrogation process right after the press conference, all thanks to Sumaira's persuading.
Cyrus left to see his family, so Michael took charge of inviting the prime suspect, Aarif Muhammad Babangida, who rushed over the moment he heard his sister had returned safely, not at all minding the charges against him.
"I would've said I'm innocent, but you won't believe my words. Let's hurry up and get this over with," Aarif placed his elbows on the table, hands supporting his chin.
"Before you try any atrocity, know that everything that happens in this room is being viewed and recorded by other team members, including your sister. That being said, I'll start the questioning now," Michael sat on the chair opposite Aarif and folded his arms.
When he didn't receive any response from the unmoving man, he took that as his cue to continue.
"The confiscated weapons comprise thirty HK416-c firearms, seventeen M1934, and ten Italian grenades, all of which have your company logo engraved on them. What's your comment on this?" Michael watched as the man drummed his fingers on the table, a small smile playing on his lips.
Outside the interrogation room, Sumaira observed her brother's every movement with hawk-like eyes. She wanted nothing more than for his innocence to be proven, the reason why she pushed for the interrogation to start the same day they returned without even going to meet him beforehand.
"As a licensed manufacturer, my sole aim is to make a profit. I sell to the higher-ups, whether in bulk or as a retail, it's only natural you have me here as a suspect. May I see samples of the models?" Aarif spoke up without batting his eyelashes.
"Sure," Michael headed for the door and pulled it open. He spoke to the police officer standing there, waiting until the man returned with three different items before sauntering back to the suspect.
"There are no bullets, just so you know," Michael kept them on the table, one after the other. Aarif rolled his eyes heavenwards and grabbed the firearm, adeptly dismantling it in a few seconds.
"2017... No," He grabbed the glass of water and poured it on the engravement with white paint, using the edge of the cuffs to scrape the now wet paint off.
Aarif stared at the number underneath in disbelief. He grabbed the pistol and grenade, wasting no time in doing the same to them.
2023.
He rose to his feet in a split second, running his hands through his buzz cut.
"Mr Aarif, please calm down and tell me—" Michael was cut off by the man's steely voice.
