OMNISCIENT
"We found Aqsa and arrested the culprit, everyone can rest easy," Maheer broke the news to the worried family members through the video call, switching the camera to display his wife and child happily conversing with each other.
"God is good." Waheeda stopped pacing and sat beside her husband, who wiped her tears.
"Take care of yourselves and sleep well, okay? We'll meet in the hospital tomorrow morning," Dalila dabbed the corners of her eyes for the umpteenth time, and the couple nodded before he ended the call.
"Shall we?" He turned to his wife and daughter, and the look-alikes gave him an eye roll.
"I see that you've decided to start acting like your mother, Princess," A smug smile took over his lips as she propped his chin with his arms.
"You always told me that I act so much like her, Daddy." She narrowed her eyes at the man whose smile almost reached his ears.
"I guess I left quite an impression on the detective," Sumaira batted her eyelashes at the man whose gaze instantly darkened.
"That's an understatement, Doodle. Your mother left an indelible mark right here," He turned to Aqsa, placing his hand on the left part of his broad chest.
"Daddy loves Mami, but I love Mami more." She aimed to land on her mother's body from the backseat of the car, but Maheer caught the little girl in his arms and tickled her so hard she giggled.
"Who did I just catch?" The girl soon burst into tears that travelled to her mouth as he laughed. Sumaira was sure to record a video of them as it was a priceless moment for her.
"If you two are done arguing, you can follow me," She ascended the staircase and took a deep breath, her eyes lingered on the door knob for seconds that felt like hours.
It wasn't until a gentle nudge from her husband brought her back to the reality of standing in front of where she found herself unable to set foot in again, not without him.
"We're here to create new memories built on a genuine relationship, not dwell in the past, Doodle." A blinding smile brightened her entire night, but the soft breeze did not do a single thing to calm her racing heart.
Once again, she almost forgot how gorgeous her husband is. And her heart soon turned into a puddle at the sight of him holding their daughter, her child.
"Yes, yes," She sucked in a breath, blinking back the tears that threatened to fall before unlocking the door with her fingerprint and turning on the door knob.
A new wave of breeze emerged from the dark hallway before golden faerie lights illuminated their path. Maheer, sensing her nervousness, intertwined his free hand with hers and together, they sashayed into the house as though it were a runway.
"Our house is beautiful," Aqsa gushed and wiggled out of Maheer's hold to run around, she ran to the aquarium, eyes wide as saucers as she stared at the colourful display of the shoal of fish.
"Thanks to your father's exquisite taste," Sumaira saluted the man, whose smile almost reached his ears.
"Mami, what does exquisite mean?" Aqsa turned to her mother, eyes filled with unquenched curiosity.
"Reserve the questions for later, Princess. We—" Maheer aimed to bail his wife out, but the woman shocked him for the umpteenth time that day.
"It means something is extremely beautiful, perfect. Just like your Dad," Sumaira whispered the last part to her daughter, eliciting a hearty chuckle from the little girl.
