A Few Days Later, 9:11 A.M.

Overwatch Headquarters was abuzz with life, its halls filled with a steady rhythm of activity. Conversations spilled from the briefing rooms, boots clattered against steel floors, and the faint hum of the distant comms center formed a quiet symphony of purpose. The organization was growing, strengthening, and today marked a particularly significant step forward.

In the central training room, a crowd of agents had gathered, their chatter subdued with anticipation. At the far end of the room stood a stage, modest but adorned with Overwatch banners that fluttered faintly in the draft. Three figures stood on the platform, the spotlight illuminating them: Lena Oxton, Winston, and Genji Shimada. They were dressed in formal uniforms, their presence a testament to their growth.

Jack stood before them, his posture firm and commanding. The legendary soldier was every bit the embodiment of Overwatch’s ideals—a leader who inspired confidence with just a glance. His voice, when he finally spoke, carried across the room with warmth and authority.

“Today, we honor three remarkable individuals,” he began, his blue eyes scanning the room. “Lena Oxton, Winston, and Genji Shimada. Each of them has demonstrated exceptional courage, skill, and an unwavering commitment to the ideals we stand for. It’s my great honor to welcome them to the Overwatch strike team.”

Applause erupted, the gathered agents clapping and cheering for the recruits. Lena, ever the exuberant soul, couldn’t contain her grin. She waved enthusiastically to the crowd, her excitement palpable. Winston, standing beside her, adjusted his glasses with a nervous but proud smile, while Genji offered a measured bow, his cybernetic body gleaming under the lights.

At the back of the room, Shaun stood apart from the crowd, clapping softly but smiling with a quiet sense of relief. For years, he had been the reluctant poster boy of Overwatch, dubbed “The Hunter” by himself and Overwatch for his unique abilities and enigmatic presence. The spotlight had been his burden, one he carried with quiet resentment. This moment marked a shift—a passing of the torch to someone far better suited for the attention.

As the applause began to die down, Lena hopped off the stage and made a beeline for her brother. “Shaun!” she exclaimed, throwing her arms around him in an exuberant hug.

Shaun chuckled, his hands settling on her shoulders. “Easy, Lena. You’ll knock me over.”

“Can you believe it?” she said, stepping back but still beaming. “I’m on the team now! An official Overwatch agent!”

He smiled, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “I’m proud of you, Lena. You’ve earned it.”

Her grin widened, and she nudged his arm. “You know what this means, right? We’ll finally be working together! Side by side!”

Shaun’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second. He nodded, though the unease in his chest didn’t fully dissipate. “Yeah,” he said softly. “Side by side.”

The room slowly cleared as the ceremony ended, agents dispersing to their duties or staying behind to offer congratulations. Winston lingered by the stage, deep in conversation with Angela about potential advancements in their field equipment. Reinhardt’s booming laughter filled the room as he recounted a tale to Torbjörn and McCree, his hands gesturing dramatically.

Shaun watched the scene unfold from a corner of the room, his arms crossed over his chest. The relief he had felt earlier was beginning to be replaced by a familiar weight—a gnawing sense of inadequacy.

“Penny for your thoughts?” Ana’s voice broke through his reverie.

Shaun turned to see the veteran sniper standing beside him, her expression unreadable but her tone soft.
