{Malhotra Mansion}
{Living Room}
[The room grew eerily quiet as Devyani's impassioned words hung in the air like an unspoken challenge. The younger generation exchanged wide-eyed glances, their confusion and unease mirrored in the flickering candles lining the antique fireplace. Harsh, sensing the tension escalating, stepped forward, his voice measured yet firm.]
Harsh: Jiji, please. Let's not lose our composure. No one has any real objection to Manik and Nandini's relationship. And let's not forget, as you rightly said, Dev always dreamed of uniting our grandchildren. This is what he would have wanted.
[The younger generation was visibly stunned. The revelation hit them like a bolt of lightning, leaving them rooted to their spots.]
Manik: Wait a second, Daddu. If this was already decided, how come we never knew about it?
Abhimanyu: Exactly! If this was pre-planned, why weren't we informed? You can't just make decisions about our lives without telling us.
[Savitri, seated gracefully on an antique loveseat, attempted to diffuse the growing tension, her voice gentle but resolute.]
Savitri: We didn't want to pressure you. Choosing a life partner is your right. We were merely hoping that, like us, you would find happiness together.
[Devyani chimed in, her tone softer but unwavering, her eyes glinting with conviction.]
Devyani: And it seems God himself approved of this. Look at Abhimanyu and Mukti—they found each other without anyone's interference. And now, Manik and Nandini have done the same.
[But Durga's expression hardened, her knuckles white as she gripped the chair tighter. Her voice was sharp, dripping with disdain.]
Durga: This isn't happening! Just because Nandini is Asha's daughter doesn't mean she deserves to be part of this family. If we're looking for bloodline connections, then Manik should marry Sonia. She's Dev's real granddaughter!
[A collective gasp rippled through the room. The chandelier's light seemed dimmer, as though reflecting the collective shock.
Devyani's face tightened, her voice rising as she stepped forward.]
Devyani: Don't forget, Durga, that Nandini carries Dev's blood too. She is Asha Khurana's daughter!
[Durga's eyes narrowed, her words slicing through the air like a whip.]
Durga: That's where you're wrong. Nandini isn't Asha Khurana's daughter. She's Asha Murthy's daughter. I will never accept her. She doesn't belong in this family.
[The room fell into stunned silence, the ticking of the clock almost deafening now. Abhimanyu's voice rang out, his patience finally snapping.]
Abhimanyu: By that logic, Mukti isn't part of this family either. She's Reet Aunty's daughter, not a Malhotra.
