Chapter 21
Even though Nath and I were past the worse, we were both still upset. It’s been just over a week since Nathan did the interview, and just like I thought we were hounded by questions of both the fans and paparazzi wanting to know more, though we didn’t say anything as it was a private matter. They got to see first-hand the emotion Nath and I went through by listening to the song, the response they got to it, not just from the fans but the critics too, had been unbelievable. It was released a few days after the first performance and it went straight to number one, you could really see how much it meant to them once they’d all found out the news, especially Nath
Since Nathan had a few days off he’d told me to pack for a long weekend away though he wasn’t giving away any clues to where we would be going. Even Megan, the boys and my parents were in on it which I thought was completely unfair, though it did make me kind of excited at the prospect of a short holiday with just Nathan.
The only clue he’d given me was telling me to pack for warm weather, which meant we were going out of the UK, because, well really, British weather was never very warm even in summer. I’d dug out all my summer clothes from the back of my wardrobe and managed to fit them in one small single suitcase which really amazed me, I knew the airport were strict on baggage and all that so I made sure I stuck to the requirements.
We were about to leave for the airport, the taxi was on its way and Nathan was just checking he’d got everything (I had to remind him about his passport at one point) as he wasn’t very organized and he pretty much always ended up rushing – there had only been the few times when he was on time or early!
A car horn beeped from outside and I knew our ride had arrived, Nathan wheeled his suitcase to the front door already in sunglasses even though there were grey clouds covering the sky. I locked the front door and put the key safely away before the taxi driver loaded our suitcases in the boot of the car as Nath and I hopped in the backseats. “Excited?” he questioned, taking the sunglasses off so I could admire those amazing eyes. “Definitely, bring it on!” I exclaimed as we began the short journey to the airport – it was so useful living in central London being so close to everything.
Even though it was meant to be a surprize I found out where we were heading when we checked in, Nathan couldn’t really hide the fact unless he covered my eyes and ears (and that would be slightly extreme). So I found out that the flight we were catching was leaving in two hours to Paris, it was only a couple of hours away so I didn’t have to worry about a long, boring flight. It kind of made me laugh knowing that my grandparents were in Calais (in France) at the minute for their yearly holiday there. Nathan winked as we went through baggage and security when he was asked to stand with his arms above his head as his metal chain sent the alarms off, lucky for me I got through without any hassle – though I think Nath would have enjoyed the show.
We spent most of the time in a café pigging out on food and drinks, I was glad Nathan hadn’t upgraded us to first class since the flight was so short – though originally that’s what he’d planned. I didn’t see the point in spending so much more money when the flight itself was so short, I mean you could probably only just watch one film in that time.
I got more excited as time ticked by, even though I’d been to France a fair few times in the past with my family I’d never been alone with Nath, so I knew the few days we spent there would be amazing. As families smiled their way through the departure lounge it was hard to watch the young toddlers and babies with the happy parents, it could have so easily been us.
“Let’s get this show on the road!” Nathan exclaimed when our flight number was called for boarding, there were quite a few other people around us so we had to wait a few minutes before actually getting on, but when we did we had a lot of seats to choose from. Nathan was a gentleman by letting me take the window seat, I’d said he could have it on the way back but he’d smirked muttering something like “they’ll be plenty of opportunities for that” or something along those lines which got me slightly confused, what was going through his head?
