One Step Away From You

Chapter 1

Kate's POV

Beep
Beep
Beep

I growl and hit my alarm clock. I turn around and look at the time. 6:30 in the morning. I step out of bed and go into my bathroom (yes mine) I shower quickly and walk downstairs.

Oh! I almost forgot to introduce myself. My name is Katherine Rose Woods but everybody (except for my brother) calls me Kate. I'm 17 but I am turning 18 in 2 days. I have a little sister named Faye and I have a big brother named Justin. Like everybody in our pack, we are wolves. My wolf her name is Sky and she has a grey/white fur, like my brother and sister. Our pack is called: The Moon Blood Pack. I still think its a great name. When wolves turn 18 they find their mate but only if your mate is also 18 or older.

I smell pancakes from the kitchen and quickly walk into the kitchen and sit down at the table with my dad. "Good morning Kate." My father and mother both say at the same time. "Good morning." I say back.
I grab a plate and start eating some pancakes when my brother walked downstairs and ruffles my wet brown hair. "Good morning little Katherine." He says and smiles a big grin. I return the grin and he sits down with some coffee and literally attacks the pancakes.

After breakfast (which my sister joined later) I walk upstairs to get ready.
I choose some black jeans with a white t-shirt and a black leather jacket. I throw my hair in a ponytail and grab my black converse. I apply some mascara and grab my bag.

My sister and my brother already sit in the car waiting for me. I get into the car and sit on the passenger seat next to my brother.
"There she is, miss almost 18" My sister said and I punch her playful on her arm. My brother starts driving to our school.

About 10 minutes later we arrive at school and my sister immediately runs to her friends while I and Justin walk inside. We walk over to my best friend/ Justin's mate, Sam. She pecks Justin on the lips and gives me a hug.
"So how was your weekend?" She asks and Justin shrugs. "Normal, you know doing some Beta stuff with my sister." Justin answers and looked at me. Justin is Beta (second in command) and I am, thanks to Justin third in command. I love my job but I just hate our Alpha. Jake Anders. Eugh even the name sound disgusting.

The bell rings  and Sam and Justin walk to their class. I sigh  and walk to my class, math. I walk into the classroom and greet our teacher. Mr. Johnson. I sit almost in the last row and grab  my math book. More and more students come into the class and take a seat. When the bell rings Jake comes running into the class. And you can guess it, the only seat left is next to me. Yay! My favorite person in the world! Note the sarcasm.  He sits down and smiles at me. I roll my eyes, I know it was a fake smile. If you know us both you know that we hate each other. Although we never show it.
We both know that the Alpha should be loved by all and especially his second and third command. But we both know that isn't going to work.

I snap out of my thoughts when Jake waves his hand in front of my face. I look at him and he asks me for a pencil. "Here you go." I say with a fake smile and he smiles back at me.
At the end of the first period Jake comes to me. "Here is your pencil back." He says but I don't  take it. "Keep it." I simply say and I turn around to walk to my next class. Jake grabs my arm and I turn around. "What?" I ask. "I just wondered if you are coming running with me and Justin after school." I smile. I absolutely love running. "Yeah of course, see you after school." He let my arm go and I walk  away. I look over my shoulder and he winks  at me. I quickly turn around the corner.
No that didn't happened. I think.

Yes it happened and we both know that you didn't mind it. Sky says. 

No it didn't happened and I need to go to English.  I say back. 

I quickly run to English and take a seat. I am now just praying that wink didn't meant anything.

After school

I walk with Justin and Jake into the woods. "So who is up for a race?" Jake asks and  Justin nodded. I just give a small nod and we all change into our wolves. Sky howls happily and I chuckle in my head. I look aside and see Jake's black wolf and Justin's grey wolf. I start running and I hear two pair of paws behind me. I speed up some more and suddenly I only hear one pair of paws. I slow down and turn around. I stand eye in eye with Jake.

Where is Justin? I mind link him.

He needs to do some Beta stuff. He replies

Don't you need to be there?

No. He answers annoyed.

Well I am going to check on my brother. I say and I run back to the pack house.
