"Louis, open the gate right now I swear to god!" The girl's voice shrieks you awake. You try to look around but are unable to, then, as quick as you awoke, you slip away into the darkness again.
You wake once more in a panicked frenzy, an ebbing pain permeating through your shoulder; a sign you're still alive. You look to your wound, you're shirtless but pleasantly surprised to see that you've been bandaged up. This feeling of pleasantness doesn't last long however, as a voice cuts through the air, bringing your attention to the doorway of the room you're occupying, a small one with a single metal-framed bed that you're lying on. There are no other furnishings.
"Morning sunshine." A guy that looks around your age gives you a small wave and steps out of the shadow of the doorway and into the light of the room. He's wearing a dirty brown jacket that ends at his knees; and a stupid grin on his face too. He fiddles with one of his dreads and takes a step closer, "are you friendly?"
"Where am I?" you ask, attempting to get up only to realise that you're handcuffed to the bedframe.
"I'm not gonna answer that until you answer me," the guy says firmly. He takes another step forward, this one much smaller than the previous.
"I don't appreciate being chained up," you say, trying to be calm. You aren't lying, after being a prisoner of the Delta, you're done with handcuffs; the quicker they're off you the better. "I'm. . . friendly," you say in a resigned voice. There's nothing more you can do.
"You part of a group?" The guy seems to be more comfortable after your answer and approaches the bedside, still at an arms length from you, as if worried you'll attack him.
"I was," you reply. "They don't exist anymore."
"Clem recognised the mask you had on you, made from an actual walker's face. Pretty gruesome." He smiled slightly, as if he was enjoying the conversation. You weren't. For you, this was an interrogation, not a chat between friends. "You were, what did she call it. . . A Whisper-person? Whisper-man?"
"Whisperer," you corrected him. "And only very briefly. My original community was destroyed and the Whisperers captured me shortly after."
"Ah," the guy's voice drops off slightly. "I'm - umm. . . Sorry to hear that man." There's a short pause as if he's trying to figure out how to recover the conversation. "So, y'know, what's your name?"
"Ghost," you answer as directly as possible.
"Wow, that's. . . a really cool name man. I'm Louis, but a few of my friends call me Lou." He holds out a hand for you, before retracting it after remembering that you're restrained to the bed. "Violet is gonna be so happy you're not dead, Ruby said she wasn't sure you'd pull through - apparently you lost a lot of blood, like, way too much. I was actually put on guard duty to kill you when you turned but it seems - "
"Oh my goodness." A girl walks into the room, a look of shock plastered on her face. She runs her hands through her ginger hair before gaining her composure and rushing to your bedside. "Lou, you should've gotten me as soon as he woke up." She shot him a glare and he skulked backwards, his hands raised defensively as if her gaze alone could kill him.
"I'm sorry Ruby," he said sheepishly. "The guy looked fine - "
"Fine?" she asked, cutting him off. "He was dehydrated, half-starved, bleeding everywhere, and you wanna say he's fine?"
"Well he isn't doing those things now is he?"
"Louis," she said, her voice suddenly full of authority and maybe even some anger. "Go and tell Clementine that our patient is awake."
Louis nodded wordlessly and scurried away out of the room, his footsteps getting quieter until you could no longer hear a trace of his existence.
"My name is Ruby and I am so sorry about what happened to you by the - "
