Everyone agreed with the plan. You were going to find this alleged place the survivors of the siege of Fort Summer founded, and hope they'd be able to help.
"That's if this place is even real," Omar said, echoing a sentiment even you held slightly. There was a chance that this place was a rumour. Something someone came up with to give people a bit of hope. Something of which all soldiers who served under the Militia's banner needed after its fall.
You needed it to be real though. Not only would it cement your status at the school, but you'd get to meet others like you; ex Militia, who you may or may not know. Plus it would give you a chance to possibly enact any revenge on members of the Delta — if you come across them on the journey to Richmond of course. All in all, the journey would be worth it.
Originally it was just meant to be you, Violet, and Louis; but now Ruby was coming along too. She insisted she had to as she knew the most about first aid and what the group needed. Originally, Clementine didn't want anyone to know about the trip but now was not the time for secrets, she'd made that point all too clear.
However, what she had omitted from everyone was how dire the trip really was. Only the five of you knew that the school was out of medical supplies, everyone else thought it was just a simple trip to top up supplies and discover the other group's intentions.
So there everyone stood, just in front of the gates to the school, wishing you all farewell. Just before leaving, Clementine nodded to you. You could sense that she was warming to you slightly. She sort of had to, you were leading an expedition for her into something that could be completely dangerous. You could tell she wasn't a very trusting person, but you had a feeling she'd come around eventually.
She had to.
The four of you left the school gates quietly, the cold winter air harsh on your nose and ears, burning them slightly with a dull stinging pain. Once you'd gone far enough away from the school, Louis was the first to pipe up.
"Maybe on this trip we could make a pitstop for some warmer clothes? Maybe even a woolly hat or something y'know."
"Would be nice," you replied. "But it'd depend if we have the time." You adjusted the straps of your backpack. Everyone was wearing one so you could load up as much of the medical supplies as possible. "Plus, if we make the journey to Richmond by car, we will be warm enough inside it."
"That's if this place even exists," Ruby chimed in. "I don't wanna be pessimistic but if the people you and Violet met were lied to then we're back to square one."
"If Y/N believes its real then I do too," Violet said, defending you. "Besides, we can always try finding a working car ourselves if the place isn't real."
"Aww, c'mon Ruby. I'm excited, I wanna see these soldiers Y/N was with. Do you think you can boss them around?" Louis turned to you, a grin on his face. "I mean, you were a sergeant right? Surely you can just order them to give you a car."
"I'm not sure that's how it'll work," you said, leading everyone in the direction you last saw Kiran and Tag. "We'll just have to see what happens. We don't even know how big the group is." Your eyes caught tracks in the dirt and leaves that covered the forest floor. Human tracks. You veered on course with them and kept an eye out. They were too neat to be made by an infected.
"Let's just hope they'll be friendly when we find them." Ruby sighed.
"What's gotten into you?" Louis pried. "You're usually all cheery and happy. Want me to start singing to lighten the mood?"
"Oh god no!" Violet exclaimed. "Like genuinely, please. Do not sing."
"Well someone has to," Louis replied. "So unless you want—"
