beautiful and tragic,
played only for them,
and heard by none but the night. ❞

HE DROPPED THROUGH THE CEILING LIKE A DEMON TORN LOOSE FROM THE UNDERWORLD.
The first explosion punched through the dome, a shockwave of sound and shrapnel; shards of glass knifed down in a glittering rain.
Before the gunmen could even shout, he was there, a black shape hammering into the rafters, fighting for balance. One hand flicked up and a harpoon lanced out, skewering a shooter's leg and pinning him in place — then another shot, another line, another scream.
The Bat flipped backwards into the void, the two gunmen ripped off their beams like broken marionettes, counterweighting his arc as he swung beneath the catwalk and vaulted back up, landing hard. Their bodies swung in the open air behind him, useless and flailing.
It all happened in a breath.
The hooded mob recoiled, then answered with blind gunfire but the bat was already moving, a blur carving through the storm. Bullets sparked off steel and stone, chasing him.
He launched across a shattered beam, caught it mid-swing, catapulted himself into the next group of shooters.
And hell opened.
Bones cracked like pistol shots. Knees buckled backwards. Faces snapped away under fists like steel hammers.
A gunman fumbled for a fresh clip, terror written across his face — Batman lunged but something yanked his cape. He whirled : two bloodied Nobodies gripping him, desperate to pull him down into the abyss yawning below.
Batman twisted hard, wrenching the cape, flinging them sideways, a blur of fists and elbows, bodies dropped like sacks of meat.
The panicked shooter raised his rifle and another shouted across the beam, Batman dodged and the terrified man fired in a panic — rounds ripping into his own ally, both of them falling in a spray of blood.
One stray round smashed into Batman's cowl, spinning him sideways.
