I awoke to the sound of rain pattering on the windows and the roof. I sat up groggily on the mattress that I was sleeping on until I could be bothered to go to IKEA and pick up a flat pack bed. I stood up, heading to the kitchen to make a cup of tea, when something caught my eye.

"No..." I groaned. "This is not happening." In the corner of the room was a puddle of water, dripping from the ceiling. I grabbed two towels and mopped it up as best as I could before putting a saucepan underneath it. Hopefully that would catch the water until I could phone the landlord.

I headed into the kitchen, making a cup of tea whilst frantically searching for the piece of paper with the landlords phone number written on it. I eventually found it at the bottom of my handbag with a bunch of old receipts. I dialled it on my house phone and he picked up.

"Hello." He said, obviously irritated.

"Hello." I said, putting on my best grown up voice. "My name is Bethany Bates and, yesterday, I moved into Apartment 10. I have, as of this morning, encountered a problem with the roofing. There is a leak and it would be best if it were fixed."

"Right. I'll come have a look and see if someone can sort out your roof. Anything else?" He asked mockingly.

"No thankyou, that's all."

"Right. Well I'll be there in half an hour."

"Perfect. I will see you then." He hung up. I was still in my pyjamas and I had twenty minutes to get ready (in case he showed up early.) I sprung into action, changing into jeans and a "Hakuna Matata" tee shirt and putting on minimal make up. I stared at myself in the mirror. My hair was a dull brown apart from the blonde streak on one side. I brushed it back from my face and tidied it. I looked somehow presentable at least.

I was interrupted from my thoughts by an impatient knock on the door. I jumped up and opened it quickly. A small, balding man stood in the hallway, a taller man in uniform was stood next to him. The tall man was holding a tool box.

"Hello." I put on a mock happy voice. "I'm Bethany, come in."

"Hello, Bethany. I've brought someone to take a look at your leaky roof." He walked inside and I led them to my bedroom, where the leak was. Fortunately, the man knew what was wrong straight away and managed to fix it within an hour and a half.

After they left, I walked into my living room to unbox my computer. I set it up on my dining room table for now. Then I clicked onto my favourite game... Minecraft.
