I LOVE YOU, I'M SORRY " And then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like 'I love you' " ── SOMETHIN' STUPID
There's something really intimate about calling someone at night. Whilst everyone else is sleeping, the house as silent as a grave, you're cuddled up in your blankets, phone in your hands, whispering words only spoken when you're drowsy — almost asleep.
"Can you hear me?" Walker asked, his voice glitching a little as it passes through the phone's speakers. "Yeah, as clear as day," she replied, the brightness of her screen in her pitch black bedroom catching her off guard.
"Right, uh— how was your day?" Walker didn't need to ask, her day was infinitely better when he started talking to her. "Could've been better," she says, "but it is now that we're talking."
That mustered a small chuckle from the blonde, the ends of his mouth curving upwards as his cheek grow a shade of pink. Both sides of the call shared a peaceful silence, relishing in the comfort of each other's presence. It didn't matter if Sofia had a thousand projects to do tomorrow or Walker hadn't even memorised his script, they were at peace.
"Oh, right, I almost forgot," Sofia broke the silence, "My mom invited me back to her place for a small visit. I haven't really seen her in a while."
She paused, "Wanna tag along?"
"Me?"
"No, the other person on this call that I'm more willing to bring along."
"Ah, right," walker sheepishly mumbled. Guess her sarcasm hasn't faded over the years.
"Sure," he replied, his eyebrows slightly raised. It wasn't the fact that he was invited that surprised him, it was the fact that he was invited. He didn't think intruding into a family dinner was Sofia's idea of 'friends', but to be fair, Sofia's definition of everything was a little different than everyone. Maybe that's why he was always so fascinated by her as a child. Because she sees the world differently, like a painting of a sky that's a slightly darker shade than it's supposed to be.
"Great, Friday, 6.30, good for you?"
"Yeah. Perfect."
"It's a deal then," Sofia gave a small grin.
If not for the fact that he was on a screen and not actually there, it might've been the perfect night.

SOFIA'S POV
I intuitively have this theory that once everything in my life seems to be working out the way I want it to, the universe takes it away from me, like a parent taking away their children's devices once they start getting the smallest bit of obsessed over it. Yet I prayed this time would be different — I assumed that even if the universe was so cruel, so unfair to me, it wouldn't take everything from me instantly. At least not this time.
Guess it doesn't really apply anywhere. It's so unforgiving, in a way that makes me wish moments like these stay forever.
"Sofia?"
"Yeah?"
"I think I've fallen in love with you."
As the silence grew louder and louder, as the tension began seeping down into the air, there wasn't really much I could do without making the situation worse. So I did the one thing I knew how to : leave.
Like the coward I am. Every. Single. Time.
"Walker?" I'm weak. I'm sorry. I'm not cut out for it.
"Yeah?" He sounds vulnerable, pure. Something I'm not. Something I'll never be.
"I'm hanging up on you."
