Hungary slid his hands along the wooden table next to him, small splinters threatening to stab into his calloused skin. It was that time of the year again, all malicious monsters were out for a hunt. The admittedly most dangerous time for a weak little creature such as himself. He would usually call Poland for some sort of protection, but that was out of question this time. Poland was busy, besides Hungary wouldn't feel comfortable to ask Poland for such a favor yet.
They've just started improving on their relationship again a few months ago. It wasn't that the faun didn't trust the Polish angel, he just had a feeling Poland would get the wrong idea. Not that it mattered anyways. Hungary had made preparations for this night few months prior, he was ready to defend himself and his most treasured belongings.
Hungary checked his bag once again if all his supplies were ready for use, checking the time on the grandfather clock once more nervously. He was prepared for mostly everything.
The moon rose to its highest point, shining down at the fields like a gigantic sparkling mirror. The sounds of diverse creatures roaming around was heard from outside Hungary's tree house. He stood alarmed, his hand already in his bag to grab anything that was necessary. Tiptoeing to the small windows and door as quietly as he could, he checked for any immediate danger. There seemed to be nobody around, just a couple of werewolves running across the field in the distance.
The faun let a relieved sigh escape his mouth, turning around to go upstairs to check from his sleeping area as it had a little balcony where he could look around further. As he reached his room the worry began fading. Maybe this night wouldn't be as bad as they usually are. Nothing has tried to take a bite out of him just yet, in fact there was no danger in sight!
Hungary smiled to himself proudly, his hands on his hips as he turned to get back down. He was aware that things could take a turn any second, but he was so glad the night started this well. Since everything went more smoothly than
he expected, he allowed himself to relax. Taking the bristle brush near his cauldron and dipping it into a potion he began cleaning his horns delicately and let his mind wander from reality.
The harmony of the wolves and wind howling in unison is what ultimately pulled Hungary out of his thoughts. The sound of the balcony's door shutting from the wind made him flinch and his heart began racing from realization.
Something has entered his home.
He could feel the presence, he knew he was no longer alone. Hungary broke out in cold sweat and reached into his bag with trembling hands, looking at the spiral staircase leading up to his sleeping area. A few quiet and dainty footsteps and then silence.
Hungary's eyes darted around anxiously, his hands feeling clammy as he backed up into the wall, waiting for anything to appear.
He indeed prepared himself for many creatures, but unfortunately not for all. He didn't count on a vampire of all godforsaken monsters to show! Hungary assumed they think too highly of themselves to meddle with such barbaric beasts that hunt tonight.
Hungary gulped audibly, looking up at the vampire glaring down at him with bared teeth like a deer in headlights. Should he just run for it and try to escape? No doubt would the bloodsucker chase him down and kill him anyway. He decided on doing it nonetheless, slipping away from the vampire quickly, frantically searching for anything to successfully defend himself with. Hungary looked around panicked before admitting to himself that he, in fact, had no clue how to defeat a vampire. In his 500 years of living he did not once come in contact with vampires and he thought that's how it would stay for the rest of his life. He never felt the need to look up how to defeat vampires, since none lived around this area up until now apparently.
