Daniela was coming back from the corner store with Ashton, swinging a plastic black bag around. "I bet you can't beat me down the block," she said, eyeing him closely.
Ashton was intrigued, going on to say, "I bet you I could-" but Daniela already started bolting down the street to get a head start. Ashton was quick on his feet and started running, Daniela picking up her speed and screaming down the street.
Georgie and Genevieve were coming from the other way, Genevieve standing on the back of Georgie's bike as he rode them around. "My money's on Daniela!" Genevieve shouted, Georgie turning his bike around to follow the Parker siblings.
"Hey!" Ashton stared in disbelief as he passed them.
"I'm betting on Ashton!" Georgie cheered, but Daniela was faster than him. Genevieve chanted, and Daniela screamed louder as she reached the gate before her brother. Georgie slowed down and kissed his teeth, "You booty, Ashton."
Genevieve held her hand over her brother's shoulder, "cough it up. Twenty dollars."
Georgie groaned and paid her, rolling his eyes. He looks up at Daniela to ask, "Daniela, mind if I come in for a drink? My mom yelled at me that if I go in the house one more time, I'm in for the day," and he was trying to enjoy his time outside before the streetlights came on.
"We got juice in the fridge," Daniela invites him in, stepping aside as he hopped off the bike. He and Ashton went inside, Daniela shifting her gaze to Genevieve with a smile to ask, "Soo, how was the dance?" It was sweet that Genevieve called her over yesterday to help her get ready, Daniela giving her her full undivided attention and helping her with her makeup as Mrs. González did her hair.
"Fantastic! I got so many videos to send you," Genevieve brightens with the memories flooding in.
Daniela chuckles, "Send me? I already got the 100 Snapchat videos when you were out," and she watched every single one of them, showing them to Enrique at how happy his sister was.
"But that wasn't even half of it." Genevieve was just excited to talk to someone outside of her friend group, and Daniela loved every moment of it. Of course, Daniela wasn't trying to keep up with the teenage drama, but Genevieve really confided in her. That made Daniela feel like she was doing something right.
"You didn't drink, did you?"
Daniela wasn't sure if Genevieve was still on that whole rebel trip that she and Ashton were on, but Genevieve confirmed, "Not one ounce. I stuck to the fruit punch bowl."
She informs, "That's what they usually spike," Genevieve slowly knitting her brows.
"Hmm. That explains the slurring and throbbing headache this morning." Daniela sighed heavily as Genevieve laughed.
"You gon' give me gray hairs."
"It was alcohol-free. The teachers were on our butts the entire night." Genevieve went with a guy she liked, and it took a lot of courage for this boy to ask her. Not only was he the shy type, but he was aware whose sister she was. He was scared Genevieve's brother and her father would kill him if he made a move on her, so he kept his hands to himself and his face far from hers. "I can't wait for prom! I'm definitely taking you dress shopping with me."
Daniela went to reply, but hearing a familiar sharp whistle followed by a "Mamasotaaa," Daniela twirled around with a ball of energy, eyes landing on Enrique's car. He slowed down close to the curb, honking at her. Ashton and Georgie were coming out of the house around this time, witnessing Daniela damn near skip to his ride. "Mami, ¿cómo estás?" how are you?
