The weight of my father’s words still lingered in the air.

Izana.

Mikey’s half-brother was standing right in front of us, cool as ever, like this was all perfectly normal.

Except it wasn’t.

None of this made sense.

Mikey had never mentioned him. No one had. And now he was just… here?

I glanced at Yaz. She was still frozen, her mind clearly running as fast as mine.

My father sighed, rubbing his temples. “Look, I know this is a lot to process. But Izana is family. He always has been.”

I clenched my fists. If he was always family, why were we just finding out now?

But before I could ask, Izana smiled.

Not a warm, welcoming smile.

A knowing one.

One that sent a chill down my spine.

“You don’t have to look so scared, Takemichi,” he said smoothly. “I don’t bite.”

His words were lighthearted, almost teasing—but something in his eyes told me that I should be scared.

The Others’ Reaction

Dinner that night was tense.

The long dining table was filled with plates of expensive food, but the atmosphere was suffocating.

Baji, Chifuyu, and Draken had barely spoken since Izana arrived.

Mikey, though, was the worst.

He was silent.

Not his usual bored kind of quiet. Not the tired kind either.

This was different.

His eyes never left Izana, watching him like he was trying to burn holes into his skull.

Izana, on the other hand, was having the time of his life.

“Damn,” he said, taking a bite of steak. “It’s been so long since I’ve had a meal like this.”

He turned to my dad, grinning. “Still got the best taste, old man.”

Dad chuckled. “I try.”

I nearly choked on my water.

Old man?!

Since when did they talk like that?

“Hey, Mikey.” Izana’s voice was suddenly directed at him.

Mikey didn’t respond.

Izana just smirked.

“It’s been a while,” he said. “You’ve gotten taller.”

Mikey’s grip on his fork tightened. “Tch.”

That was all he said.

One single annoyed sound.

Izana chuckled. “Still as talkative as ever, huh?”

I saw Baji shift uncomfortably in his seat. Chifuyu nudged him under the table, silently telling him to keep quiet.

No one knew how to react.

So I forced myself to say something.

“So… uh… what have you been up to all these years, Izana?” I asked.

Izana leaned back, tapping his fingers against his glass. “Oh, you know. Traveling. Meeting interesting people.”

Something about the way he said interesting people sent a warning through my brain.

Draken spoke up for the first time. “So why come back now?”

Izana’s smirk didn’t fade. “Because I finally felt like it.”

Bullshit.

Nobody just randomly decides to come back into their estranged family’s life after years of silence.

Especially not someone like him.

Later That Night

After dinner, the tension had finally started to die down.

Baji and Chifuyu were arguing over who would take the last piece of cake. Yaz had already gone to her room.

I stepped outside to get some fresh air.

That’s when I saw Mikey.

He was standing on the balcony, arms crossed, staring at the stars.

I hesitated before speaking. “Mikey…?”

No response.

I stepped closer. “Are you okay?”

Still nothing.

Then, finally—

“He’s dangerous.”

The way he said it sent chills down my spine.

“What?”

Mikey’s eyes were cold. “Izana. He’s not here just to play family, Takemichi.”

I swallowed hard. “You really think—”

“I know.” Mikey turned to face me, his expression unreadable. “I don’t care what he says. I don’t care how nice he acts. He’s up to something.”

I wanted to argue.

I wanted to say that maybe Izana had changed.

That maybe he really just wanted to reconnect.

But something deep inside me told me Mikey was right.

Izana wasn’t here for a simple reunion.

And if we weren’t careful—

We were all going to regret letting him in.
