"He's seizing!"
My eyes blinked open and I looked around, confused by the commotion. I was in Hyunjin's hospital room sitting in a chair. I don't even remember falling asleep.
Suddenly, I acknowledged the words that I heard. Hyunjin's having a seizure. My eyes widened; I was on my feet and beside his bed within seconds. He was convulsing badly and I felt panic rush through me at the sight.
Eventually, some other nurses and a doctor rushed in, as I was already instinctively assessing the situation: "Get the benzodiazepine!" I told the nurse at his side first to put a clean rag in his mouth to prevent him from biting his tongue.
As I was doing this, I felt a pair of arms pulling me back. "Get her out of here!" The doctors shouted, pushing me out of the way as a nurse dragged me out of the room. I was confused and shocked. Everything felt like a blur.
"Wait! I-I'm a doctor!" I shout, struggling against the nurse's hold but she wouldn't let go. Finally, I stopped struggling and let her lead me outside.
My heart was racing and I felt overwhelmed by the whole situation. The nurse gently rubbed my back in hopes of calming me down.
"Ma'am, we know you're a doctor, but we can't just let you treat the patient." She spoke gently. I understood completely but that doesn't stop me from wanting to help.
Leaning against the wall, I looked up at her and nodded, "Ok. I'll be fine." My tone was soft and reassuring. She was hesitant before going back into the room.
As soon as she left I slid down the wall and covered my face with a stressed sigh. Seeing Hyunjin in that state, disarrayed everything in my head. I couldn't focus because I felt there was nothing to focus on besides helping him.
"Y/n?" I heard a familiar voice call out, making me look up. It was Chan. He was wearing a cap, mask, and glasses. His head was also covered but I could tell it was him.
I quickly stood up, hoping he wouldn't get concerned, "Hey, he's in this room. He has a severe concussion which is causing him to have seizures."
He came to my side and looked through the window of the door. Although I couldn't see his face, I could tell he was anxious about the situation.
He suddenly took off all of the stuff hiding his face and rubbed his hands over his face, "How could something like this happen? Why Hyunjin? After all he's been through recently."
I nodded as I stood beside him, "I'm sorry," I spoke softly.
Chan's brows furrowed as he turned to me, "For what?"
This time I looked him in the eyes, "All of this started because of me."
Chan grabbed my wrist gently, grounding me. "Y/n, you can't blame yourself for this. This was nothing more than a terrible accident." Although his words were meant to help me they only passed through me. Chan exhaled sharply, gripping my shoulders. "Hyunjin wouldn't want you thinking like this. He's going to get through this."
I nodded weakly, but doubt still clung to me like a second skin. The beeping of the monitors inside Hyunjin's room echoed in my ears, each sounds a reminder of how fragile he was right now.
The door suddenly opened, and the doctor stepped out. My heart leaped to my throat as Chan and I turned to face him.
"His seizure has stopped," the doctor informed us, his voice steady but serious. "But his condition is still unstable. We need to monitor him closely."
