Eva walked slowly towards the private area of the restaurant, where Ethan was already waiting. She had a feeling this wasn't going to be an ordinary meeting, but here she was anyway, unable to back out now.
Ethan had reserved a secluded room, far away from the noise and prying eyes. As Eva stepped inside, he immediately stood up. His dark gray eyes met hers with an intensity that made her heart skip a beat. It was like he'd been waiting for this moment. A soft smile appeared on his face as he pulled out a chair for her to sit.
"I didn't think you'd actually come," he said, his voice full of surprise and something else - relief, maybe.
She sat down and gave him a small, knowing smile. "I didn't really have a choice. I had to come."
His gaze briefly shifted to the glass of water in front of him, as if gathering his thoughts. Then, he said, "I wish I could believe you."
There was something in his tone that made her pause. She could tell there was more beneath the surface. "Do you think I'm lying?" she asked, her voice quieter than usual.
His eyes met hers again, a flicker of something, vulnerability, perhaps - flashing in them. "No... It's just... maybe I've grown used to people not doing what they say."
She couldn't help but feel the weight of his words. There was a sadness in them that struck a chord in her. She straightened up, her curiosity piqued. "And you think I'm one of those people?"
He looked at her for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Then, with a sigh, he said, "No. It's not that. It's just... Ummm," he paused little, searching for words, which was rare," well, leave it." He said while tilting his head little.
The silence between them stretched on, and for the first time, Ethan was behaving like this, he wasn't nervous but tonight, there was something different in him. Something that she was seeing a side of him no one hadn't seen before.
"I didn't ask you here just to talk," he continued after a pause, his voice soft but firm. "There's something I need to tell you. Something I can't ignore anymore."
Her heart raced as she focused on his every word, sensing, what he was about to say. "What is it?"
He exhaled deeply and met her gaze. "Ever since I met you, things have changed. I've felt like I've stepped onto a path that I can't turn back from. It's... unsettling. But I can't deny it."
Her chest tightened at his confession. The intensity in his voice was unlike anything she had ever heard from him. It was raw, almost desperate, like he was laying his soul bare for her to see.
"I've never felt this vulnerable, before" he continued, his tone softening. "When you're around, everything feels different. I'm used to being in control, but with you... I can't help but feel like I'm losing it."
She looked down, her thoughts racing. She didn't know what to say, didn't know how to respond to his words.
Was this just another one of his games, or was he really being honest? With her
He seemed to read her thoughts, and he gave her a gentle smile. "You don't have to say anything now. Just think about it. But remember this, Eva... I'm not someone who gives up easily. Not when I want something."
Her fingers instinctively curled into the edge of the table. His words left her with a sense of unease, yet something inside her stirred, a mix of fear and curiosity.
For a moment, He simply stared at her, his expression unreadable. Then, as if trying to lighten the mood, he chuckled softly. "Just kidding, Eva. But really, think about it. And if you decide in my favor, well... let's just say that'd be a good thing."
