"Oh, I'm sorry Marty, is it? I already have a date to prom." Tyson replied to me, without a second thought.
"It's Marianna", I replied, resisting the urge to roll my eyes. "That's my fault, I should've realized you would already have a date, thanks I guess." I sauntered off hearing his group of jock friends laugh at my effort on asking the hottest guy in Central High School to prom. I know that he doesn't have a date. I did my research, a lot, actually and I even had my two best friends help me just so that I wouldn't be humiliated like I was. Oh well, looks like I'll just go solo to my senior prom. That sounds so pitiful, I mean I'm not popular, of course I know that, but I'm not at the bottom of the high school food chain. I have multiple friends all around the school in different cliques, I just never stuck to one place. I was in marching band for two years and concert band for six, but things changed and I realized band is not for me anymore. I also was in basketball and volleyball and tried to be a part of the track team, and the softball team, but I guess sports were just not my forte. I am the editor of the yearbook though. That is something that I enjoy on a daily basis and have stuck with. Also because I am the editor, I know people, it's my job to talk to everyone and get their stories so they have a spot in our schools yearbook permanently. I know it sounds like I am a total geek, but I have no shame in it, and I tend to surprise people when they get to know me outside of my geekiness. I am not normal, just a little crazy is all, I enjoy talking and making people laugh, so I guess people don't mind my company, especially since I really have no problem with saying what's on my mind, and believe me it doesn't always end well.
"What did he say??!!" one of my best friends, Carson screamed in my face. Obviously more excited about prom than I am. It really is a funny story how Carson and I became so close. We have known each other since our last year in elementary school, and even though we weren't always the best of friends, we have always been there for each other and a turn of events my sophomore year caused us to get closer than ever and we haven't been separated since.
"He already has a date to prom" I replied rolling my eyes while putting air quotes around my words so she knew I was annoyed and so she could tell that I knew he was lying.
"Damn Mari, I'm sorry, I really thought he would be nice about it and say yes to you." My other best friend Rae comforted me, with the nickname everyone calls me, even though her choice of words didn't make me feel that great about myself, it almost made me seem like I could only have him if he said yes out of pity. I shook that thought out of my head, Rae has been a friend of mine since our first year of middle school and even though we didn't get close until out freshman year she will always have my back and I trust her, even if she doesn't choose her words carefully.
"It's not your guys' fault at all," I sighed, "Its mine for getting my hopes up and getting so excited. I don't even know what made me want to ask him so bad. First, the guy is supposed to ask the girl anyways. Right?" I questioned myself. "Yeah, sure he's hot but are you kidding me?! He's incredibly stupid, he barely passed our senior year and he's an asshole, he couldn't even remember my name." I rambled with frustration.
"Seriously? All the hot ones are either idiots or gay."
"Rae!!" Carson and I both yelled in unison at her while laughing our butts off at the blonde girl.
"What??!! You guys know that it's true. So don't even bring it here." Rae responded. We shrugged in agreement and decided to leave school on this miserable Friday. We all piled into Rae's car. Carson and I are extremely lazy, especially when it comes to having to drive. Rae has had her license the longest, so she is used to driving us around, we say that we "carpool" so that it's cheaper, since we're always together anyways, but in reality we all are lazy asses, one of us just happens to like driving more than the other two.
