I walk though my front door and automatically am bombarded with questions from my mother.
"How did it go? Did he say yes?" Reluctant to answer all of her questions I walk into the house and nod my head in the direction of our garage so my mom got the hint that I would go talk to her in private soon, without my nosy brothers around to hear. Now, about my mom and mines relationship, we are as close as a mother and daughter can possibly get, we have been through everything together, I feel comfortable telling her everything, and when I say everything, I mean everything.... She knows every guy I talk to, and any crushes I have. She knows about any drama I have in my life. She's my rock, and as cliché as it may actually sound, it's the truth and I am hers as well. I set my bags down in my room and shut the door to change out of my jeans into some comfortable track shorts that I've had since my freshman year, that even have a little tear on the right side. I should seriously buy some new shorts' I think to myself. After I walk to our kitchen and grab a water bottle, I walk into the garage and walk over to where my mom is seated and sit down. She finishes the text she was currently typing on her ancient phone and sets it down giving me her full attention.
"Alright, so I asked him to his face after school and he said no."
"He said no?" My mom asked confused.
"Yeah" I responded with no emotion. My mom knows I hate the feeling of rejection, considering I have had to live with it my whole eighteen years of life.
"Oh babe, I am so sorry" she comforts me, using the nickname she literally calls everyone, and holding her arms out so she could hold me. I of course hug her and cover my face in her shoulder, the feeling of her arms protecting me from any more hurt that could possibly happen to me today.
"He's an idiot Mari, he didn't deserve to be your date anyways"
"I know mom," I giggled then realization struck me, "Mom, promise me you will not say or do anything, and I mean ANYTHING." I warned her. That's the other thing about my lovely mother, she is literally a bear when it comes to protecting her kids and if that means embarrassing me while fighting my battles she'll do it. I swear to you, this one time, this kid called my little brother fat in front of my mom and she grabbed the kid and shook him and yelled in his face saying "what if people called you ugly, you wouldn't like that" until the kid apologized. And this all happened in front of the kid's mom, needless to say, she'll do anything for me and beating up some senior boy who rejected me should not be a reason she goes to jail.
"Fine, I won't. I promise" She huffed. I just laughed and squeezed her harder.
"Thanks mom, oh! And before I forget, we are going dress shopping with Carson's mom and Rae's mom tomorrow, even if I'm going alone, I still have to look good!" I exclaimed.
"Mari, you know that I want to get you everything you want in the world, but we don't really have the money for an expensive dress right now. I forgot how close prom was, I'm so sorry Mari." My heart sunk, hoping I wouldn't have to dip into my own savings, but this was a necessity.
"Don't worry about it mom, I totally have it under control, I just want you there to help me choose a dress out."
"You know that I wouldn't miss it then" She responds with a happy expression.
"Alright mom, I am okay now, I promise, but I think I'm going to go look at a few ideas for dresses and do some reading, okay?"
"Kay Mari, I'm here if you need me. I love you"
"Love you too mom!" I shouted back as I walked into the house and headed into my comfy room. I threw myself down on my bed and started thinking about my day. It wasn't the worst day of my life, it could've definitely gone much better, but there isn't much I can do about it now. I grabbed my laptop from the side of my bed and turned it on, then started looking at prom dresses in stores available still in my hometown. I found some that were pretty and some that made me gag, but I couldn't really picture myself in any of them. Oh well, I thought, I guess I am just going to have to see how it goes tomorrow. I shut my laptop off for the night, not really in the mood to do anything. I started looking for my phone wondering where I had thrown it and found it under my bed. Don't even know how that got there. I put in m password and saw that I had five new messages. From Carson and Rae in our group message.
