"Hold still Kayley!"

"Mama we spin and spin!" My wiggling 3 1/2 year old toddler couldn't stand still while I was trying to put her hair in a ballet bun for her class. She was telling me everything that they had been doing in preparation for her upcoming ballet recital and then trying to mimic the moves while I had a hold on her blonde hair.

"Baby I know, but I need to finish your hair, ok? So hold still for me please."

"Ok mama!" She finally stood still and I stuck a few more bobby pins in her hair then sprayed a little hairspray to contain her fly-aways.

"Now mama?"

"Yes, i'm done. Go bring me your tights and your leotard so we can put them on." I watched as she ran off to her room giggling in her yoga shorts and sparkly pink shirt she had been wearing for the majority of the day. She was smaller than most girls her age. She was born a little premature plus, i'm not very tall and neither is her father. I went around the corner into my room and to my closet to change. On the way out, I caught a glimpse of a picture of Kayley the day she was born. She was asleep and swaddled in a little pink blanket and she had her tiny hand wrapped around Josh's thumb. Josh had such a huge smile on his face as he looked down at our tiny little princess sleeping in his arms.

Josh has been away shooting a movie on location in Rhode Island for the past 10 weeks. Of course, it had to be in the farthest state away from me and Kayley. We are all the way over here in California. I mean, the flight from here to where he is, is at least 8 or 9 hours, normally longer. We usually are able to visit Josh at least once when he is away filming, but this time Kayley got sick for about 2 weeks . Then, I got sick for about 2 weeks and it took at least another week for me to start to feel like my normal self again. So in between us getting sick and all the doctors appointments, we haven't had the opportunity to go visit him. Plus, Kayley started her ballet class and didn't want to miss any classes. Josh is coming home in 4 days, although Kayley doesn't know. He wants to surprise her. It will be the day before her big ballet recital and I did feel kinda bad when I told her that I didn't think daddy was going to make it for her show. She was trying hard not to cry and it broke my heart a little. She is such a daddy's girl and she hates when he is not here.

I changed into a maxi skirt with a tank top. I put on a lightweight scarf and my wedges and threw my hair up into a messy bun. Just then, I heard tiny little footsteps coming closer and closer at an alarming speed and then Kayley crashed into my legs.

"MOMMY!! I found you!"

"You did find me princess! Mommy had to change." I picked her up and kissed her cheek.

"You look pretty mama!"

"Thank you baby!" I planted one quick kiss on her lips and put her down.

"I got my clothes."

I helped her put on her pink tights and her pink leotard, as well as her shoes, then slipped on her tutu over. When she was dressed and ready to go, I buckled her into her car seat and we drove off to the dance studio. We were about half way there when my phone rang in the car so I pressed the answer button on my steering wheel.

"Hello?"

"Hey babe. What are y'all up to?"

"I'm driving Kayley to her ballet class. You're on speaker."

"Oh. Hi Kayley. I miss you!" I looked in my mirror and saw Kayley look up at the roof of the car.

"Daddy!! I'm going to my dance class and i'm going to spin and jump!" I heard Josh laugh a little, causing me to smile.

"She has been talking about spinning all day long. What are you doing babe?"

"Well, we are done for the day and I was just going to call and tell you about you know what. I have the details for my F-L-I-G-H-T."
