Baylee
"Is there any specific reason as to why you wanted to move to California?" Doctor Dan questioned me over our video chat. It was time for one of my doctor appointments. It's been a week since I've moved to California and he wanted to check up on me. Along with the fact that I needed to restock my pills.
It's already been a week of hanging out with Ross, but yet, I haven't met any of his family yet. Although, I did find out that his last name is Lynch. He still has no idea, and even if he does he doesn't mention it, that I have cancer. I mean, it really can't be that hard to figure out, could it?
"Because I wanted a change in scenery. And like you said, I want to live the best damn 3 months that anyone could ever live." he chuckled, fixing his glasses so they say properly on his nose.
"That's great Baylee. But why did it have to be so far away?" Dan worried. "Are you being careful? Was this your dying wish?"
I shook my head. "Yes I'm being careful and no this was not my dying wish. It was more of my daddy wish!"
My dad, who was currently sipping on a glass of water, began choking. He began spluttering up the water out of his mouth and nose. The nurse that is currently in the room, her name is Mrs. Sheldon, gave my dad a look of disgust and sympathy before handing him some paper towels.
"Well, I hope you save that up for something special."
"Trust me. I defiantly will." I grinned, in which he reciprocated. I made a mental note to write one of my letters to him, to tell him how grateful I am for everything he has done for me and how much of an inspiration he is to me.
"That's great so are you feeling dizzy at all? Adam," he began. He's on a first name base with my dad. "Have you noticed any changes in her appetite? Mood swings?"
"Well aren't mood swings typical for a teenage girl?" he tried to home causing Dan to shrug his shoulders through the screen, and having the cranky nurse roll her eyes. "But honestly no, she still eats everything on her plate and I made sure that she doesn't have to go up any stairs unless it's absolutely necessary. She hasn't seemed dizzy, are you dizzy Baylee?"
I shook my head. "Nope, not dizzy at all."
"That's great." He smiled. "So, basically, we'll video call once a week. That way I can check up on you, see how you're doing and what not. But I'll just call the local pharmacy and you can collect your pills there."
"Sounds great. Thanks Dan." my dad and I waved goodbye as we ended the video chat. Mrs. Sheldon led us out of the room where we left the building and made a bee line for the car, as fast as I could anyways. "Man, did that nurse have a bad day or what?"
I nodded, buckling my seat belt. "There was defiantly something wrong with her."
We were about halfway home when my dad decided to break out silence. He turned down the radio, that was currently playing Hall of Fame, before he began speaking.
"Baylee, I know you don't want to but don't you think it would be easier to tell Ross now, rather than later or to have him figure it out for himself."
I let out a shaky sigh. "I guess so. I just- I hate having that conversation with people. I just want him to treat me like Baylee, a normal teenage girl. Not Baylee, the teenage girl dying from cancer. You know what I mean?"
He nodded. "Ah, so you just don't want him to treat you differently once he knows?"
"Exactly."
"Ross doesn't seem like that kind of guy. He isn't like everyone else, you know?" my dad took his eyes off the road for a brief moment. "He's a good kid."
