Baylee

"You know what I have never done?" I asked Ross, putting down my dad's tablet that I was playing Minion Rush on.

"Had fun?" Ross smirked, continuing to throw the foam basketball up in the air while laying on his back on my bedroom floor.

I scoffed. "I have so had fun."

"I've seen your bucket list Baylee, trust me. You haven't done a lot."

I rolled my eyes, watching the ball go up and down. "Those are just the things I've always wanted to do before I got diagnosed."

"What did you do before that for fun?" he questioned, seemingly curious. "I mean, I've done a lot of things on that list."

I fake gasped. "So that means you've been to Antarctica?"

Ross let out a smile. "Ha ha, I said a lot, not all."

"I know." I giggled, carefully sitting up. "You're not cool enough to go to Antarctica."

The ball never came back up as he fixed his hazel ones on my blue ones. "What?"

"You heard me. The penguins wouldn't like you." I joked watching as he got to his feet.

"They wouldn't huh?" he bent down so our foreheads were touching, noses almost there. "And why wouldn't they, love?"

My breath caught in my throat as I tried to come up with a comeback. Him being this close and calling me love, isn't exactly helping my heart rate stay down. Along with finding my voice.

"Um- they uh." I stuttered, barely able to breathe properly. Just 3 weeks knowing this guy, he makes me feel like my heart is on fire.

A smile graced his lips. "See, I've rendered you speechless. Just admit it, the penguins would love me."

I shook my head, keeping my ground. "Nope."

The smile just got wider. "You sure about that?" his eyes cast down to my lips before catching my gaze again. "And nothing I could do, would ever change your mind?"

I bit back a gulp as I followed his eyes again. Don't be a tease Baylee. Don't do it.

"Well, maybe there is one thing." his smile dropped as his eyes widened, as if he wasn't expecting me to catch on to what he was saying.

His mouth opened to reply but no words came out as my bedroom door slammed open, a 7 year old invading our presence. Ross immediately removed his forehead from mine, backing away from the bed; greeting my brother.

"Hey buddy, what's up?"

Jake was out of breath, as if running the distance from the living room to my room was as long as a marathon.

"Daddy said- that we- can go do something fun." he took a deep breath before continuing again. "But me and Baylee have to agree."

"Well, what would you like to do?" I got off my bed, standing on the other side of my brother. I ruffled my hand through his dark locks as he thought of his answer.

"Disneyland!" he exclaimed, looking up at Ross with hopeful eyes. Ross chuckled, shaking his head slightly.

"Another day bud, I promise."

"Promise is a really big word." Jake replied cheekily. "You've gotta pinky promise."

Ross held out his pinky, interlocking it with my brothers smaller one. "I pinky promise."

I internally cooed at the sight in front of me. He's going to make an amazing father one day.

Too bad I won't be around to see it.
