The enemy came so quickly, the troop did not have enough time to react. Bullets whizzed past William, but the other soldiers did not end up so lucky. Men fell as the bullets punctured their bodies, and William did not want to join them.
William ran, trying to give out orders, but the Nazis shot his comrades down faster than he could give the orders. William ran zigzaggedly to dodge the bullets streaming towards him.
William cried out as a bullet hit his left cheek. It burned hot. He could feel warmth trickling down his face from the wound. He touched it to find blood on his hand. William cursed under his breath while he tried to stop the blood seeping from his face.
William panicked, trying to lead his men to safety. He thought to himself, 'We are sitting ducks out here. What should I do?' He got up and shouted to everyone, "Retreat, fall back, we have to leave! Now!"
The last remaining soldiers stumbled and tripped upon each other trying to retreat. Even if the remaining soldiers did make it they would lose too much blood before help could arrive. The English tanks fought the enemy as long as they could, but easily destroyed when the enemy's artillery arrived.
William heard a cry from a soldier ahead. He ran to a young soldier on the ground with a bullet to the leg. He did not want to just leave the boy there. William lifted the boy to his shoulders and ran. William cried out, "Medic, where's the bloody medic!" "Who the bloody hell do you think you're hoisting up right now!?" The boy responded. William cursed. If the troop's medic is injured...
BOOM!
The bomb landed just meters away from William, but not enough to throw him off.
William's lungs wanted to burst from his chest. He kept running like his life depended on it, and it did. "Hey," William called, "how're you doing up there chap?" The medic groaned in reply. William frowned. He thought, 'Now what? Head to Belgium?'
A bullet hit William's helmet. In surprise, he tripped and hit his head on a rock. William splattered into the mud and blacked out.
The boy's cry seemed so distant to William. He opened his eyes to focus. The enemy stood right above him. William wanted to run, but the surrounding Nazi's and his injured head told him not to.
William's vision grew blurry as he slipped from consciousness. Before he blacked out again, he saw a Nazi impale the medic with his bayonet. The Nazi did not impale William since the other soldier next to him pointed out the bullet hole on William's helmet. After they left, William passed out.

Sem sat down on a rock as he pulled out his lunch. He read his Oma's recipe book while he ate. Sem wanted to remember the recipes for later use. He grabbed a milk glass that his Mama packed for him. Sem stared at his reflection before drinking it.
Sem had semi-dark brown hair and hazel eyes. Most girls found him attractive, though he could not figure out why. He seemed taller than most men in his village, but not as tall as his father.
Sem chuckled. His father could have been a giant for all he knew. When Sem turned five, his father hoisted him on his shoulders to see the sunset. It felt like soaring through the sky like a bird. Sem's father always called him his Sea Eagle; soaring through the sky and past the ocean. Sem's smile faltered. He missed his father so much it hurt his heart. He knew his father chose to help their country, but still.
