My mum grunts and turns over mumbling incoherently. I shake her again but more forcefully.

"Mum." I shout not caring that she probably has a splitting headache. Her eyes open slowly and recognition dawns.

"Ugh, Bambi don't shout and close the curtains!" She says.

"Wake you boyfriend up and get him to leave, Sophie wants to come home and I don't want him here when she does." I say loudly just to annoy her, turning around and walking into the kitchen to get a glass of water for her. I hear grumbling and swearing from her boyfriend. I turn back around and walk to the living area and give her the glass of water.

"Hey bitch where's my glass?"

"You're leaving, get one at your house." I reply. He stands up and comes stumbling over.

"Don't disrespect me." He slurs, still a bit drunk.

"Why? You're just a passing phase. My mum will move onto another sleazy git exactly like you, by next week." I tell him. He raises his hand and brings it to my cheek in a blink of my eye. My head whips to the side and I feel the sting, which slowly turns into an ache. What does my mother do? She just sits there ignoring it like nothing happened. I know I have a hand mark on my cheek, which I can't wait to explain to Sophie and the school.

"You know what? Just stay here, I won't come and look after you next time you get drunk." I tell my mum before walking out the door slamming it behind me. I pull myself together, before walking to Chloe's apartment.

"Everything OK?" She asks when she sees me.

"No, can we stay here tonight."

"Oh, sweetie. Your face." She exclaims. Everything starts to catch up, Tanner, Sam finding out, my mum's boyfriend. I feel tears start to creep down my face. Chloe comes running up and pulls me into a hug.

"Sophie can't see me like this yet, I'm just going to go for a walk, I'll be back soon. Look after her for me." I couldn't take it any longer, Chloe was a better mum to me that my own one.

I walk out the door and run down the stairs and out of the building. I keep running blindly down the road until I hit something hard and fall to the floor, I look up, putting my hands up in front of my face expecting to see my mum's boyfriend or maybe Tanner, but I instead see Storm.

"Hey, what you doing out here?" he says. I drop my hands, push myself up and wipe some of the tears away from my face.

"Why are you crying? Did Tanner do this? I knew he would." He asks muttering the last bit to himself.

"N-no, he didn't do anything." Yet. I add silently.

"Is that a hand print? Who did that to you?" He asks looking closer at my cheek which is slowly forming a bruise.

Will she tell Storm?

How will Sophie react when she sees her mum with a hand print on her face?

Who hates the boyfriend? (I know I do!)
